I do need to get back into the lay of the land for 2022 and elections around the country. I have been hesitating in large part because you’d be surprised how many people suddenly show up wanting coverage, endorsements, etc.
But, there is a battery of Fox News polling out about contested GOP primaries around the country. In Georgia, Brian Kemp has broken the 50% barrier in his primary against David Perdue, who hasn’t yet broken 40% despite some race consolidation. The polling across pollsters there has been consistent. It also shows Herschel Walker with about 66% of the Senate vote.
In Utah, Mitt Romney has disappointed a lot of conservatives by refusing to endorse Mike Lee, his colleague in the Senate and the nicest guy in Washington. Romney has decided the independent challenge by Evan McMuffin, the publicity whore willing to sabotage solid small-government conservatives for fifteen more minutes of fame, isn’t serious and is friend with the two Republicans running against Lee aren’t a substantial threat. He should still do it because it is the right thing to do.
Oklahoma Special Election
Speaking of Mike Lee, he is stepping into Oklahoma for an endorsement. Senator Jim Inhofe has announced his retirement and candidates are getting into that special election race. It is notable because Lee does not involve himself in a ton of races and this endorsement suddenly puts the race on the map. Alex Gray is a candidate for the United States Senate. He served as Chief of Staff to the National Security Council under Donald Trump and now runs a small business in Oklahoma.
Mike Lee, the leading authority on the constitution in the Senate, says Gray is a constitutional conservative. Senator Lee joins Ric Grenell, formerly the Acting Director of National Intelligence, in making the endorsement. Given how national security and foreign affairs are suddenly at the forefront of people’s minds these days, this is suddenly a race to watch.
The primary takes place on June 28, 2022. It’ll happen concurrently to Senator James Lankford’s re-election, giving Oklahoma two senate elections this year. A number of candidates are running and the field is going to get crowded quickly. But Gray’s resume is pretty unique with a public and private sector background that stands out.
Mike Lee has a pretty good track record of vetting good conservatives, so put this race and Alex Gray on your radar now.
I'm so disappointed in Donald Trump actively sabotaging the upcoming mid-term elections. Regardless of any suspicions about the 2020 election, by Trump hanging around conservatives are at risk of not making the gains a party out of power should make when the party in power is so lame. I'm also disappointed in the average electorate in the state of Georgia and in the United States.
Agree. As I am addressing postcards for the Kemp Campaign telling voters to vote for Kemp in the May primary, I am reminded this volunteer task would not need to be done if it was not for Perdue. Very unhappy with Perdue and Trump.
