Okay, this is my Omaha Steaks story. About 25 years ago, Christmas, my husband and I had spent every minute we could spare from work doing our Christmas shopping, wrapping presents, cleaning the house for company, all at the last minute, of course...and on Christmas Eve, as we were loading the car with presents, headed to his sister's house for our family get together...it hit me.

I hadn't done any grocery shopping, we were close to broke...and the stores would all be closed for Christmas Day. No turkey, no ham, no roast beast...we weren't going to have any "Christmas Dinner" the following day, and we were already running late for the family get together, and it would be way too late for shopping when we headed home. We were pretty philosophical about it...it was just the two of us, we had "food", just nothing special for Christmas...it would be okay.

When we started handing out presents at the party, my sweet sister-in-law handed us this huge Styrofoam cooler, and told us it was "Omaha Steaks"...we'd never heard of them before, but, okay...we were willing to give them a try. I figured it would be that "shoe leather" type steak...his mom had gotten conned by a door to door salesman that sold her a couple hundred dollars of "prime steaks" that you needed a hacksaw to cut through, and I thought it would be more of the same.

She had gotten us a huge pack of their filets and rib eyes...and we had our best Christmas dinner EVER. Filets so tender you could cut them with a spoon...with that garlic butter, melt in your mouth delicious...I've been a Omaha steaks fan every since! We usually get them about once a year, for a special occasion, birthday, anniversary...and you make my mouth water talking about them on the radio!

Cool story and exactly the kind of immigrants we want coming to this country.

My mother-in-law used to give us Omaha Steaks every December. They were delicious, way better than the meat that we could get here. I didn't know their story. Thank you!
