The House leader is well known to be devoid of principle. He is a political opportunist. He has shifted positions and courted coalitions over time, but that lack of principles and wind-blown drift are coming back to haunt him. After January 6, he loudly condemned Trump and then sought to memory hole it as the base still backed Trump.
Now, 13% of Republicans and a majority of independents are begging the GOP for a crazy free leadership of principled adults who offer stability. McCarthy as Speaker would be the GOP signaling to the voters they need that the GOP has heard nothing, learned nothing, and will offer nothing. McCarthy as Speaker is the GOP rebuking the voters.
Instead, the GOP needs to take a different path forward by rejecting McCarthy as Speaker. It is the strongest possible signal to the American public that the GOP received the message last Tuesday and will earn the trust of the public for a larger majority in two years.
I believe that more than 13% of Republicans are ready to move on from President Trump, the 2020 election, and January 6th. I voted for President Trump in both 2016 and 2020. I believe he was unfairly treated by the Russian collusion hoax and the impeachments. Regardless, the future for 2024 is a new younger generation of leaders like DeSantis.
I voted for Trump in 16 and 20 also voted for McCain and Romney because the alternative was a no brainer Nobody likes a whiner time to move on
