Erick - I’ve reviewed a lot of the exit polling data and though I agree regarding McCarthy, I’m not so sure voters voted the way they did because they were tired of the chaos. One can look at the data and reasonably assume that voters were not convinced to go big R due to the fact that Republicans have essentially stood by and in many instances - see infrastructure, etc. - we’re complicit in the mess the Dems have caused. Leadership on the GOP side caves time and time again. They were nowhere to be found during the summer of 2020, they’ve essentially been silent regarding school curricula, they’ve offered no solution on the border, and they’ve okayed billions of dollars going to support a war in Eastern Europe while not fighting to defend our border with folks here in the US in greater need of the war dollars. In short, why would I cast a vote for a bunch of do-nothings? You can point to Trump-endorsed candidates, but a number of them did win. The American people want fighters not go along to get along. They’re on to the DC “club”…
In a midterm election, higher prices and disapproval of the current President are not enough to drive people to the polls who would not otherwise have voted anyway. Anger over the Dobbs decision and fear that the future of American democracy was at stake, are. Democratic turnout (driven by Dobbs), together with independents and even some number of Republicans turning their backs on MAGA, are the twin stories of this election.
And make no mistake: Dobbs is the electoral gift that is going to keep on giving for Democrats, as even Republican women start seeing the effects of that decision on their friends and daughters. As Lyndon Johnson once said about the South after passing civil rights legislation, I think the GOP has lost young women for a generation.
True, then who? Scalise? And to what end? The unfortunate irony of this mid-term election is the "diseased" component (the Freedom Caucus) of the Republican Party will have leverage to continue to wreak havoc on our politics. Perhaps we need to go through two years of "chemo" to hopefully return the Republican Party to some semblance of normal by 2024.
My suggestion is those in districts with "Freedom Caucus" congressmen let them know their days are numbered is they don't repent.
Based on last weeks outcome and through today the Republican Party lacks direction. I do not know who the Speaker should or should not be. The Party Needs Direction to put the party back in charge or at least have a fighting chance to win. It is obvious we do not have it right now. We need good solid Leadership and we need it now. 2024 will be sooner than later and if change is not made i truly believe another 5 years of current administration we reach a point of no return. We need Courage, Strength and alot of Wisdom.
I agree that McCarthy must go. More importantly, McConnell must go. Not because either of them are void of principles (that is crazy talk given the political success of the biggest congressional shape-shifter in the history of humans... Joe Biden), but because they lack the fight needed to be a viable alternative to the savvy Democrats and their engine of media-driven persuasion.
It is clear that those saying dump Trump are only doing so because DeSantis is waiting in the wings. They either directly know (like me and others) or subconsciously know, that the Democrats will keep scorching the earth over the top of the Republicans unless we elect a fighter. McCathy and McConnell are not fighters. They are establishment hacks from a GOP side that will just continue losing because they don't understand how to capture the interests and emotions of voters.
I believe that more than 13% of Republicans are ready to move on from President Trump, the 2020 election, and January 6th. I voted for President Trump in both 2016 and 2020. I believe he was unfairly treated by the Russian collusion hoax and the impeachments. Regardless, the future for 2024 is a new younger generation of leaders like DeSantis.
He's also dumb as hell. Remember when he said the quiet part out loud, basically acknowledging that the real motive for all those Benghazi hearings was a purely politically one to hurt Hillary Clinton?

I don’t agree at all, but time will tell.

I voted for Trump in 16 and 20 also voted for McCain and Romney because the alternative was a no brainer Nobody likes a whiner time to move on
100% agree with you. We need a leader who can mend a fence, not build higher ones!

Same thing with Elise Stefanik.
How about Luke Donald of FL?
He's also dumb as hell. Remember when he said the quiet part out loud, basically acknowledging that the real motive for all those Benghazi hearings was a purely politically one to hurt Hillary Clinton?
And with all the spine of a jellyfish.
Careful. PETA may come after you for insulting jellyfish.
