American Horror Story Is the Problem

A furniture company truck driver got pissed off at his government because he wanted a gun permit and the local sheriff told him not to even bother. So the man decided to run for office and just so happened to beat the most powerful man in the New Jersey legislature while spending less than $10,000.00.

That is the quintessential American political success story. Man gets mad at the government, runs for office, and wins. Unfortunately, progressives are treating it as an American horror story. They are treating the whole of this off year election cycle as a horror story.

Parents spent a year at home with their kids. They overheard the crap the teachers were saying on Zoom calls. The parents went to school boards to complain. The government treated the parents as the bad guys. So the parents rose up and threw the bums out of office.

That too is a very American story, but now on the news and social media, the blue checks are condemning the parents as racists trying to prop up white supremacy.

CNN did a story about a family in Texas. The parents have two children, several adopted children, and foster children. They buy 12 gallons of milk in a week. The mom said the price of milk had gone up from $1.99 a few months ago to over $3.00. On that one nugget, the progressives are not only trying to discredit the whole package, but also the family and families generally.

Some attacked CNN for daring to share the story. Some attacked the size of the family. Some attacked their shopping habits. None on the left had the audacity to say, “Oh yeah, we might have a problem.” The condescension and contempt from the left for this family was shocking. Instead of trying to understand their concerns, progressives condemned the family for not appreciating what the Democrats want to do for them and condemned them for their carbon footprint.

Therein lies the problem for Democrats and why their problems are not fixable problems before the midterms. They have too much contempt for too much of the American public. They have fallen into the very tribalism they accuse Trump voters of being in. Americans must either be for the Democrats’ agenda or they are the bad guy.

Most Americans are not as partisan as the left or right. They will vote for whoever recognizes their problems and wants to help, but they do tend to lean right culturally. Right now, Democrats do not recognize the problem, insist there is no problem, and attack anyone who points out the problem. This is how you lose, not win, and right now the Democrats are losing.

The Democratic Party, at the staff level for making public policy, is controlled by a group of single, secular progressives who are more likely to abort a child than have a child. They do not relate well to families. They have identity politics grievances related to their own self-interests. While singles are on the rise demographically, they are not yet a voting block large enough to shift public policy away from sound family policy. They do not really understand what is sound family policy. They dislike large American families. This detachment is not fixable unless these Democrats start having babies inside a family structure.

Self-interested single progressives and their identity-based grievances may drive Democratic Party policy but are incapable of shaping policies most voters want right now. The Tik Toking budget committee staffer may want you to use his favorite pronoun and limit your carbon footprint for Gaia. The American wants a job, cheap gas, and a reasonably priced gallon of milk.

Passing the Democrats’ massive spending package will only increase inflation. It will make matters worse, not better. But the Democrats cannot see that. They do not believe that. They do not want to listen to the American people. They now hold the people in contempt. Having rescued the people from Trump, the Democrats expected fealty. They did not get it and are now attacking the public as racists.

The American people will not put up with this. If the Democrats don’t exercise some humility and compassion for the public’s plight in education, raising families, and navigating these times, the public will replace them. All the GOP has to do is not be angry and not be crazy. The Democrats have both those fronts covered. As long as they treat American success stories as American horror stories, they’ll keep losing.
