Most media outlets are ignoring a new report from NBC that claims the Biden administration lied about multiple aspects of the infamous Chinese spy balloon. Biden claimed his administration only discovered the balloon when it approached American airspace. We now know they watched it take off from China. Biden claimed it could not be shot down inside the US for fear of civilian casualties. We now know it crossed some of the most remote parts of the upper midwest with ample opportunity to be safely taken down. Biden claimed the balloon was a simple weather balloon that accidentally floated across the country. We now know the Chinese were able to steer the balloon and could initiate a self-destruct feature to prevent it from being captured. In short, Biden lied and the balloon was significantly more sophisticated than any of us knew.
Don’t mean to include something that off topic, but the Masters Golf tournament is this weekend which is Easter Sunday and this Friday is Good Friday. Am I the only person that thinks this is bad timing for one of the premier sporting events in the world?
Ok. I have to call this one out. The intelligence community routinely hides/lies about intentions and capabilities.
I would be be surprised to k on the US was aware of these balloons and was covertly tracking the signals to understand what the Chinese thought they were learning. Sometimes spying on the spy is the best form of intelligence.
I also suspect the other craft were recovered, but that is being kept secret. Again, knowing without your adversary knowing that you know is a key to good intelligence.
Biden (or any other president) does not owe disclosure to the American public when that disclose would interfere with ongoing intelligence activities.

Balloons like this can be steered in a very limited way by adjusting their altitude to catch or avoid jet stream or other winds. They cannot make any ground speed against these very high speed winds. The can also do limited cross wind maneuvers using solar powered electric motors.
Yeah, I heard that. If it could get itself in a layer of light winds aloft, it’s possible I assume. But, think of the surface area of that balloon and 100+ knot jet stream winds. The B-29’s were astonished to find them over Japan in 1944; the winds being unfamiliar before that. It played havoc with accuracy.
This is the same president who continually suggests police merely wound, or "wing" those they may shoot. His ability to grasp many more complex concepts has been demonstrated ... continually ...
