This is all just amazing to me. You set up a body in a law enforcement agency to police legal, constitutionally protected speech? What a delusional display of their bubble-fueled lack of self-awareness. Everyone they know thinks this is a good idea. What could go wrong?

Yes, its going to be comical. They will focus on legitimate, truthful statements that go against their feelings and ignore the spew from the other side. The media will be on their fainting couches. Problem being people speaking the truth haven't broken any laws. What to do? They will drive for cancellation of offenders, but I see this landing at the supreme court. Can the government circumvent constituitional protections by compelling the private sector to do their bidding?

Then hopefully in 2024 the shoe goes onto the other foot. Where arguments from the conservative perspective are based upon provable facts, theirs are focused on "Their Truth", specious, and outright lies. There are plenty of laws against that depending upon the context. It just needs to be controlled by people with brains. No Kow-Towing to the surrender brigade in search of Bipartisanship and afraid of losing their invite to the DC cocktail circuit, or to the MTG wing of right wing lunatics out in search of revenge.

These idiots will reap more than they sow in the end, but its going to be a rage fueled run to 2024. After 2022 defeat and loss of power, their volume with tactics like this are going to go to max.

If the truth be known, the "surrender brigade" has a China problem; they're exactly the type of folks who are prime targets for China's "Elite Capture" crowd - you know, the guys who set Eric Swallwell up with Miss Fang Fang, and who may have arranged for Comrade Pelosi's long-term chauffeur - and there are indications that they may have acted on that; see Peter Schweitzer's new book. As for MTG; she is to the Republicans what "The Squad" is to the Democrats, just without the outsized influence and power that AOC and her buddies have.

I totally agree about the China problem. Money is the root of all evil, and to many, many Americans its their drug of choice. Either that or power or both. Retired flag officers should be prohibited from these business circumstances, and there should be analysis to see where their offspring are raking in their money. Hunter Biden is not an anomaly.

I like to say that I agree in principle that there is a stupid party and an evil party, but the Republicans don't have a monopoly on stupid, nor do the Democrats have a monopoly on evil.

Speaking of Schweitzer, his reporting on McConnell's family ties to China are pretty bad as well.

This kind of stuff was the whole point of special background investigations when I was in the military. Even when I was 22, they went 15 years back talking to my friends, neighbors, workplaces, and such. They flew an investigator out to a carrier group in the sea of Japan to ask a couple of questions to someone I knew.

There needs to be a seed change for assignments in congress. SBI with clear statutory requirements to hold certain roles in government. Legislative as well as executive branches. Useful idiot Swallwell should have no more sensitive access than an agricultural subcommittee studying compost. Schiff too. No more clearance based upon Pelosi or others in leadership on both sides waving their wands. Conflicts of interest or being compromised puts people square on the bench.

Problem is who could you trust to make that determination?

This may be the worst Presidential Personnel Office (PPO) in history. They keep appointing/nominating people who are absolute lightning rods, creating completely unnecessary controversies for themselves. If they were going to set up a nonsensical Board like this, at least you would think that they would have the sense to appoint someone who isn’t so obviously unsuited and controversial. By the way, when Psaki denied WH responsibility for this awful appointment by saying that DHS is responsible for its own hiring decisions, she was flat-out lying (surprise). Every political appointee, whether Senate confirmed or not, has to be approved by the WH PPO.

It's another manifestation of their lack of self-awareness and the lack of permeability of their bubble. There is zero diversity of thought, so when the discussion is held, they are 100% in agreement with their decision, no doubt they are dumbfounded as to why people are not cheering their choices. Additionally there is zero experience outside academia, so they don't have a clue about how the real world functions. James Carville is correct, these are all "Faculty Lounge" discussions for them.

The lack of self-awareness is really astonishing. Sure, many are academics, but many are not, including Ron Klain. Their inability to ask, or to predict accurately, “how is this going to play in the real world” is just shocking. They are just unbelievably bad at this!

Yes, they aren't purely academics, but think tanks and being a staffer aren't far removed from academia while there is a huge gulf between that and working outside of that echo chamber.

It's getting more bizarre by the day isn't it.

You ain't seen nothing yet; just wait until the 2022 campaign really gets started. Desperate people do desperate things, and the early polls give the left plenty of reason to be desperate. Buy lots of popcorn; you'll need it.
