It will be poetic justice if the Democrats lose because they just wouldn't, couldn't, didn't deal with the corrosive stew of anti-Semitism simmering within their ranks. And also: Walz has been a terrible governor; I live in MN. The mayor of Minneapolis begged Walz to call out the National Guard and he waited 18 hours before doing so, while Minneapolis burned, because he sympathized with the rioters. And also: the reason Walz won after the disaster of the 2020 riots is that the MN Republicans nominated a conspiracy theorist to oppose him. MN Democrats are crazy. MN Republicans are correspondingly crazy.

As has been said for doctors, the first rule in picking a VP nominee is to do no harm. Vetting may have uncovered some "childless cat-lady" type comment by Shapiro that could have taken Harris off message. The success of the pick will be determined by whether anyone is still talking about it two weeks from now.

With the announcement of Walz, this is truly Trump’s race to win or lose. Stick to the issues and underscore their radical policies and behaviors and it’s a blow out. Trump needs to show the same discipline he displayed after the debate through Nov 6.

I am attempting to process her / Dems choice on this. Will we convince the common voter that their election could reveal the Dems / Bernie / Squad / Warren full-on push for socialism & communism throughout our great land? And then, we have Mr. Trump, who is not disciplined in his approach as our candidate. And, here's the thing: he won in the primaries. Unlike Kamala. Why isn't the 'common' man rising up against this? Is it because Dems as any cost? I suspect so. So stupid.

Speaking as one of those common men, it is because I contacted my Democratic elected officials, urging them to ask that Biden stand down. What part of what you have seen over the past two weeks gives you the impression that any Democrats feel disenfranchised?

Expand full comment

Nothing and I only wish the Dems DID feel swayed to LISTEN to the platform of the other side, to believe that abortion rights were NOT taken away, merely moved to the states to decide & to at least entertain the idea that the government should not be giving away / supporting so many people using my taxes. To stop trumpeting that childrens books wre banned, they weren't banned from society, only that children should not be exposed to them at school & that can and are still found in the public libraries.

What a dumb choice. I thought for a moment she might be smarter than popular opinion. Nope.

This country deserves what’s coming.

Do either of the major candidates actually want to WIN??!!

THIS is the question. Both sides are stumbling towards the finish line.

I was concerned she would pick Josh Shapiro effectively taking Pensilvânia away from Trump. Between Harris not being Biden (or Trump) and Trump being a pompous ass it looks like an up hill battle for Trump.

But events change things.

She picked an old progressive white guy who will not be able to run in 8 years.

Assuming Trump wins PA, If he looses just two of

GA, AZ, OH he looses.

Electoral College wise this is going to be a close election.

I can’t imagine Harris having a lot of input in who the pick is. Big brother does most of the lefts’ talking. Minnesotas’ governor is a pure progressive just like Harris, two peas in a pod.

But I will also say that Pennsylvanias’ governors’ religion had a lot to do with the lefts’ elite pick and the fact that western Pennsylvania is a gas and oil state. You can’t have that if you are going to make this country green.

I can't help thinking Shapiro was just not too keen on aligning himself with such a dimwit as Harris.

When part of your voting block, which you need, are anti semites you pander to anti semites. Does this mean she has to divorce her husband or just tell him to lay low and keep quiet?

Now if Trump would just stick to issues and quit the ad hominem nonsense, he just might turn things his way. I’m not holding my breath.

I remember when it was big news when Joe Lieberman was Al Gore's running mate, the first Jewish VP candidate.

Maybe it's as simple as Harris couldn't find a 'first' category to check off, and just settled for the White Dude.

But I don't think so.

Otherwise she'd have picked Mayor Pete to be the first gay candidate on a presidential ticket. As long as he checked a box, it doesn't matter how incompetent he's been.

Or, maybe you were right. Maybe nobody wants this job walls was the only one who was willing to take it. Shapiro might not want anything to do with her.

That would be refreshing.

Kind of a stretch to assume religion was a factor in the choice. Couldn't it have more to do with rapport, policy positions, or fear of being out shown by the running mate? It'd be like me saying no women allowed or no minorities allowed because Trump chose Vance.

Unless you have some actual reporting on Judaism factoring into this, it seems like a click-baity title.

She needs Michigan votes. Michigan has a big Muslim population which has been protesting over the conflict in Gaza brought on by the Hamas attack on Israel. There have been additional protest in New York, Chicago, Atlanta, mostly in favor of Hamas and against Israel. Biden has been publicly praising Israel while backhanding Israel. Not much of a stretch to believe anti semitism has entered into the equation of VP choice.

Antisemitism from someone who is married to a Jew?

Expand full comment

No. I believe the point is that she caved to the antisemitism evident in the far left of her party. She perhaps wanted to placate them with her choice. Of course, there were other considerations as well.

Kind of a stretch to assume that religion was not a factor in the choice.

See how easy it is to type. Hell, even my grandmother could do it.
