Democrats and the Supreme Court

12

The visceral hatred of Clarence Thomas by progressive Democrats and members of the media continues to be one of the least reported stories in modern politics. What started as a partisan witchhunt led by none other than Joe Biden in 1991, has morphed into a full frontal assault on the legitimacy of the Supreme Court.

While the progressives have ramped up attacks on the legitimacy of the court following the appointment of three conservative justices by Trump, notice the lack of introspection. Ruth Bader Ginsburg - The Notorious RBG - defied the patriarchy by refusing to step down during the Obama years despite being in her mid-80s. This paved the way for a 49-year-old Amy Coney Barret to take her place for decades to come.

Instead of evaluating a strategically missed opportunity, progressives deemed the system must be to blame and leveraged pseudo-news outlets funded by progressive ideologues to attack the only black man on the Supreme Court. Pro Publica ran multiple stories claiming Clarence Thomas received countless favors from real estate magnate Harlan Crow draped with salacious headlines like, “How Harlan Crow Slashed his Tax Bill by Taking Clarence Thomas on Superyacht Cruises” or “Clarence Thomas and the Billionaire.

After everything was fully investigated, Clarence Thomas’ unforgivable crime was having a generous friend. Crow had no business before the Supreme Court except for one tangentially related case where Thomas ruled against Crow’s interests. For all of the talk of private travel and expensive trips, Crow paid the school tuition of Clarence Thomas’ adopted nephew and intervened so a family friend would not be homeless.

Despite calling its work “fearless journalism”, Pro Publica refused to investigate the baseless attacks leveled against Brett Kavanaugh nor did they cover the guy who went to his house with a gun to kill him. Pro Publica has been noticeably silent regarding progressive Justice Stephen Breyer’s odd connection to the billionaire Pritzker family or Elenea Kagan and Sonia Sotomayor’s extensive travel.

But as Senate Democrats are beginning to shelve formal investigations based on the faulty Pro Publica stories, the progressive group that coordinated attacks against the court is now under investigation itself. Attorney General Brian Schwalb, a Democrat, is investigating Arabella Advisors which operates an extensive dark money network that was behind the SCOTUS attacks. Schwalb’s office issued subpoenas in September that sought information relating to financial mismanagement.

As Democrats have lost control of the Supreme Court, they are now settling on discrediting the institution. Instead of participating in the democratic process as the founders intended, they aim to sow baseless doubts in the public’s mind over the credibility of the justices themselves. Which party is a threat to democracy again?
