"But if they don’t do it, they lose their donors and the new core of the Democratic coalition — angry, rich, white women and their beta male partners who worship Moloch."
I am rarely commenting on these anymore because your comments themselves are compelling and insightful. Yet this attitude of the Democrats in general and this Administration in particular is one of utter hubris. "We know what is best for you," still amounts to totalitarianism. Rather than using the nomenclature of Communist China, the Biden WH and the Left clothe themselves in the guise of Executive Action--which is an admission they cannot get what they want through congress... and we still refer to it as "the people's congress."
Does anyone else see a parallel--and the ignominy--of China calling itself "The People's Republic of China?" Perhaps we too have arrived at a time of hypocritical irony....
By the "energy" advisor's comments it is clear that an agenda that has been in place for decades has gained enough momentum to force the desired changes. Some crisis is needed, inflated mortgage bubble (2008), climate change, lack of water, food shortage, etc, pick one or two maybe all three will really create the opportunity for an elite governing group to take over. How much of this economic chaos is "planned"? More than once has the head of the IMF and such type leaders during a crisis, called for " all member nations of the United Nations to re-order their economies and bring them under control of the United Nations". Sir Lanka is completing negotiations with IMF now for their disastrous situation. Seems strategic....IDK.
The transition from internal combustion to electric is very different from the transition from horses to cars. Cars actually had a value proposition that was completely independent of the saddle. That is, yes, you sit on a horse, you sit in a car and they both get you from point A to B. That is were the similarities end.
If Ford had asked what the people wanted they would have said faster horses.
Electric cars have no value proposition to differentiate from internal combustion. Sorry, saving the planet doesn't count.
In fact electric has negatives that have not yet been addressed, and they are all relative to the battery.
Is it possible to develop the technology to overcome these negatives, sure. Is the technology feasible, easy, convenient, no, not really.
Cars also had the advantage of replacing something that was less efficient and influence the evolution of the existing infrastructure.
Electric cars are not an improvement, they are competition; with no immediate path forward other than the despotic power of Government.
Oil and the internal combustion engine will be with us in the distant future. It is absurd to believe otherwise. It is malfeasance for the Government to attempt to destroy the industry domestically. It is treasonous to give up our national security and not be energy Independent.
"If Ford had asked what the people wanted they would have said faster horses." GREAT point! The rest of your post is absolutely spot-on as well. I cannot STAND the arrogant superiority that seems to accompany many EV owners who clearly have no clue about your points above OR the hazardous environmental impact of their "no emissions" vehicle due to construction of, and the inevitable disposal of the batteries.
Here, here! A small example about the lithium battery that can be expanded to the car… I am today going to turn in a very nice weed eater running on a heavy lithium battery. Warranties for five years, purchased in February. The battery no longer charges and the cost of a new battery is 90% if the cost of the stinking weed eater. Now apply that to an automobile that is mostly battery with a shell around it and seats. Whose going to be able to afford that huge replacement. I love my car, and I own horses. My horses can go when my car can’t.
One other thing: While there is no panacea for the present malaise, the closest thing to it is to do EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what this dunce Hochstein is saying. Giving our own energy segment the opportunity to thrive again would go along way toward righting the ship.
Unfortunately, this will extend the recession well past 2024. New capacity for oil exploration and refining will take years to build. The electric grid cannot handle even a few precentage points of increase from EV cars. When Reagan took office, inflation and interest rates were high. It took several years to bring them down. We are in for a long tough road.
Ludicrous, ridiculous, irresponsible, depressing and ruinous. I’m looking up more words in my Thesaurus now to describe how much I absolutely hate what is happening at the hands of these idiot goons. I am 74, healthy, robust and active. This desperate attempt to shove this crap down our throats increasingly makes me feel as though life as I know it is coming to an end and I fear for the world my grandchildren will have to endure if these people continue to wreak havoc on our great country. We need to unleash hell at the polls.
Biden said he’d do this during the 2020 campaign and he’s doing it. Give him credit for that. Many of the now suffering voted for him. Remember, elections have consequences.
I remember during the run-up to the 2016 election Erick said Trump would destroy the Republican Party as we knew it. Trump's pretty much done the same thing to the Democrat Party as well.
To borrow a phrase from the Biden inflation talking points, I think the Repubs "are better positioned moving forward" than the Dems are.
"But if they don’t do it, they lose their donors and the new core of the Democratic coalition — angry, rich, white women and their beta male partners who worship Moloch."
Spot on, and worth the price of admission.
One of the largest failures of the Democrat party is the inability to recognize when to stop digging when the hole is getting too deep.
Reading your posts is becoming one of the highlights of each day. Keep up the great work!

There is no economically sustainable used electric car market...

Better explain to the uninformed the significance of Moloch.

Doubling down on the dumb....
