Bertolt Brecht was a German playwright who was forced to flee the Nazis. He grew up in the Weimar Republic and came to the United States, but was put on a black list by the House on American committee because he was very sympathetic to communism and the Soviets. He moved back to East Berlin after World War II. Later in life, it appears that he finally realized that communism wasn't what he thought it was. He wrote a poem called The Solution, it's very famous because of the ending.
