Love this post. Well done, sir.

I am more and more reminded of Edward Everett Hale's story, "The Man Wiithout a Country". We could fill super liners with Philip Nolans.

I would refer one back to The Man Paul Harvey's If I were the devil (I would insert Dem Socialists and Communist also) which is now proving to be epically correct. USA is now in the last swirl into dystopian stage, and we are entering the time of the end and not end of time. Selah

This country is great and it’s the best…. For now. The left is trying very hard to change that. I agree we don’t need to be or think like them but if we don’t counter them and their argument. We will lose this great country.

The left is trying very hard to change that? Well, so is the right. T'was ever thus. America has always been the product of folks on both the left and the right fighting as hard as they could to bring America into conformity with their view of greatness. Neither side ever completely prevails and the ultimate result is usually as good or better than the America that either side would have produced on their own.

I don't remember exactly what he said, but notorious progressive Van Jones once made my point when asked what would happen if he was completely in charge of the country. His basic response was that being as progressive as he is, his policies would likely grind American business to a halt and ultimately lead the country to ruin. In sum, he recognized that his progressive impulses would need to be constrained by those with whom he disagrees.

The left and the right are not so much adversaries, but partners; each of which is actually indispensable to the other because the genius of this American experiment has never been the product of one side's dominance over the other. Rather, that genius has resulted from the interplay between the two over time.

Finally as concerns the potential loss of this great country, let me ask you this: When was the last general election that was not treated by the side out of power as "the most important election of our time?" Whichever side of the political perspective that one happens to be on, you have been on the winning side of some elections and the losing side of others . . . and America (at least in my view) just keeps on being great.

As was once said by one of my countrymen with whom I usually (and often strongly) disagree, "Do not bet against America."

I disagree and I don’t need long to tell you why.

The left is no partner with the right. No more than hitler and his axis powers were partners with the free allied powers.

It’s not like there is similarities here. There is very distinct and wide differences.

The left is the party of socialism totalitarianism and despotism.

Yes, given the chance the left would round up every republican politician and every conservative voice including Erick E. Gov kemp and put them in concentration camps along with every white conservative American who refused to bow to the alphabet agenda.

There is an us and them. The left is not interested in compromising why are we?

Look my opinion. But I believe strongly that the leftist elite are a satanic cult lead by pedophiles.

That doesn’t mean I’m going to enact violence but it does mean I’m not going to sit and sing by the campfire with them.

That’s the reality. That’s the stakes.

An American is someone who is inspired by the Declaration, "We find these truths to be self evident - that all men are created equal and endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights - among them life, Liberty, and the pursuit of happiness." And yes those people will reject leaders who don't get it until they find someone willing to step up and provide an alternative option in line with that vision.

I agree with Kathy. I think most Conservative/Republicans LOVE this country and our patriots. What we loath is our Representatives not “standing up for our beliefs.” And that sir, is why Patriotic, Conservative, Republicans love Trump.

We respect our Christian founded country & heritage and

We feel helpless to save it.

Netflix has a new docu-series called How to Become a Tyrant," narrated by Peter Dinklage. What I found unique - and very unsettling - was the inclusion of a "playbook" of tactics common to all despots. The unsettling part was how many of those tactics are employed by US politicians on both sides of the aisle, among them stirring outrage and defining an enemy.

That is right, don't bet against Americans. It seems we tend to always do the right thing.

Great points in your article. Good advice to not bet against America.

There will always be people on both sides that will never be satisfied. Some are more vocal and aggressive than others. Some do it for the spotlight and some do for power and some do it because they believe that it is the right thing to do. I love this country and whole Heartly believe the God made us exceptional for a reason. I will not live anywhere else. God bless America. Wishing you all a safe and happy 4th. P.S. still voting for DeSantis

Who is it on the right who you describe as hating America the same as the left? Who says our presidents are the same as Putin? Who says Jan 6 was good? If you make accusations, at least tell us who you are talking about. I know I have no idea who you mean and I bet other people don't know either. If you can't name names, you aren't going to convince people that there are people on the right who are America hating like the left is.

I have never heard anyone on the right say anything remotely close to this. I am in Az and pretty steeped in Republican politics. Maybe in Georgia? Or maybe Erick would like to explain those truly bizarre statements.

Erick, I believe, was referring to those on the right who are adopting the grievance/victim mentality so prevalent on the left, not insinuating a hatred o America by them.

He's also previously pointed out those on the right who believe we should "fight fire with fire" with the left. That's not a winning strategy and only drives folks in the middle away.

Sadly I can say there are people I love who actually believe Trump IS, right now, the real president and Jan 6 was justified. They are angry and frustrated and putting one man above the good of this country. There are people on the left who believe conservatives will never do anything right and that any action against conservatives or their values is acceptable. Both, in my mind, are blind to their worship of something other God.

At first your comment hit me wrong, but after some thought I found I, too, wanted to know WHO these people on the right are.

Thanks. I was sincere in wanting to know who it is.

I have an idea of whom it is.

I don't loathe America, but I believe that we as a nation have lost our underpinnings of a Christian heritage that he talked about. As Breitbart said, "politics is downstream of culture". Our culture is rotten because the headwater of culture is theology, and our theology is bankrupt. As chapter 1 of Romans points out, God is giving us over.

We should point out that the party of Evil was the perpetuator of and keeping slavery legal. If anyone should pony up for reparations it should be the party of Evil.

I pray that Erick is right, but I think he is wrong that America is going to bounce back. Again, I pray that he is right, and I work towards that end.

Even if America does not "win" in the end, we still have our Jesus and the New Kingdom coming down.

I like the thought and statements. Until we get some of the press to truthfully recognize how wonderful this country is, we will always be fighting the idiots who hate America. Its time we all keep pushing positive and eventually we will grind the progressives down, and maybe, some of them might open their eyes and brains.

Good for you, Erick! I enjoy reading everything you write, but I think this one might just be the most important editorial piece you have given us!

Amen, Eric! I detest that progressives try to couch Americans that love and celebrate America as racists or racist abettors. It's disgusting to me how they willfully ignore the obvious progress our nation has made towards racial reconciliation. Working and embracing our nation as exceptional for all races is a real threat to the left's income stream. I want American history taught fully and completely, with all the worts, but without leaving out the undeniable progress we have made and continue to make towards 'a more perfect union'. It's like an asymptote on a graph, it gets closer and closer but may never be absolutely perfect, but can get extremely near the mark over time. Great black Americans such as Frederick Douglas, George Washington Carver, or Marin Luther King, Jr. would not recognize or stand with the current slate of leftist leaders who will absolutely never be satisfied nor find any joy in America.
