I was not an advocate of “Lock Her Up” precisely for the same reason I am not an advocate of “Lock Him Up.” It is madness to assume either party would lock up the political rival of the incumbent.
Regardless of what you think Hillary Clinton did or did not do with her email server, there are tens of millions of people who would assure you they know better than you what she did or did not do, and you cannot persuade them otherwise.
Regardless of what you think Donald Trump did or did not do with classified materials, there are tens of millions of people who would assure you they know better than you what he did or did not do, and you cannot persuade them otherwise.
I have to agree with George Will and his magnificent column the other day.
Regarding this week’s events in Palm Beach, Fla., of course the rule of law is important. So, however, are other things, including social comity and — check the Constitution’s preamble — domestic tranquility. No value ever eclipses all others. Fiat justitia, ruat caelum — let justice be done, though the heavens fall? Let’s not.
The left is hell-bent on finding some reason to throw Donald Trump in prison. They impeached him twice. Now the Attorney General, who’d be on the Supreme Court but for Trump, has joined the fun to throw him in prison.
If you really do want to tear the country up, you’d do exactly that.
Otherwise, you’d ignore him.
A lot of people cannot ignore Donald Trump. They’ve made too much money off him. Every single month since he left office, the Republican Party has more and more moved on from him. After the 2020 election, 90% of the GOP wanted Trump in 2024. Before the raid at Mar-a-Lago, it was less than 60% with most Republicans saying they were Republicans before they were Trump voters.
Now, we’re back to rallying around the party leader.
Merrick Garland and the Democrats are doing everything they can to get the man re-elected in their never-ending quest to find some way to throw the man in jail.
Let him go. Move on. Ignore him. You are right now finding some reason why you cannot in the name of justice, defending democracy, and the rule of law.
With each excuse, you are undermining all of the above.
This nation is running low on an indispensable ingredient of a successful society: trust, in institutions and one another. This week was another subtraction. Garland has said about the Justice Department, “We will and we must speak through our work.” Actually, his political duty is to explain and justify his work more thoroughly than he did in his minimalist statement Thursday afternoon.
Raiding Mar-a-Lago was a stupid, stupid stunt. Screaming that it was not a raid after a week of redefining what a recession is was equally stupid and galvanizing.
Let. It. Go.
Both parties need to relitigate past grievances by claiming present offense keeps this country from moving forward and, frankly, will get Trump re-elected in 2024.
Say what you will about the man, but he’s polling better than Biden and will undoubtedly do even better after this stunt. The only people who will be discredited are the FBI and Justice Department and deservedly so.
And the fact that some of you will scream about this and insist it was all legitimate and I’m a partisan for saying otherwise actually makes my point for me. You’re too broken to be rationale on this. Your hatred has made you what you hate. You need to let it go, forgive, and move on.
I was a big supporter of Trump for the very reason that he promised to "drain the swamp". My support for him ended when he refused to concede and he started this "stop the steal" nonsense. It is true that the media, democrats, establishment, etc. did everything possible to disrupt and destroy his presidency while he was in office. But, it is time to let it go and move on. I am tired of him being the center of attention 24/7. We need someone like DeSantis that will work to drain the swamp and is intelligent enough to do it without making everything about him.
I'll choke down my vomit a third time and vote for Trump again if he is the candidate. That being said, I very much dislike him on a personal level because there are simply so many things to dislike about him. His policies, and other countries' respect (or fear) for/of us on the world stage were, from my view, without question. The thing is, with our government there are so many seditious actors, spies and turncoats within his own ranks it becomes much more difficult for him to actually do his job. I'd really like to see Desantis as his running mate, if for no other reason than we'd likely be assured to hold the White House for the next 12 years. Then, I think we could really see some great results.
