There is nothing conservative about this at all. Trump said he would bring price down “very quickly.” Instead, we got tariff wars. That’s not conservative, either. Who in this Administration told Trump this was a good idea? Fedgov does not need to own any part of any corporation.
As original Tea Party I am really pissed by this. I’m not a Dem because I think the govt already has to much control over our lives and as you reminded everyone not one of their efforts has worked and tired of my wasted tax dollars! There are other ways to protect our security than by being shareholders and having unfair advantage over AMD, etc. and hopefully this can be rectified or the voting removed or with strong safeguards. I’m still with Trump as alternative is way worse, but his Dem background is showing or he’s going for expediency by neither of which is good in long run for taxpayers.
Government “Economic Development” schemes and scams gave me motivation to become politically active in 1978. They were wrong then, and are still wrong. The list of failures is long, both of favored businesses and their competitors, at taxpayer expense. There is nothing new under the sun, and Trump is wrong on this.
Agree with Erick 100% on the dangers of government taking economic interests in the private sector. I can't think of a single instance where this has worked out well in the end, despite the best intentions of politicians to shield the private sector from the near term fallout that might result from the failure of a large U.S. business, or whatever the motivations of government might be.
That being said, one of the government's greatest economic sins, not counting the running of the national debt up to nearly $40 trillion, was the bailout of Wall Street etc. on the heals of the 2009 "financial crisis" ("Never let a crisis go to waste", said Every Politician). A decade plus of near zero interest rates has wrecked both the stock market and the U.S. housing market, both running at historical and unsustainable highs. In fact, the last time the stock market was running at a PE of 30 was just before the dot-com bubble burst back in 1999-2000. Caveat emptor!
This is a horrible idea, I agree. However, America needs chip manufacturing in America. I wonder if this isn't a step in that direction? If war with China breaks out and they take Taiwan, we will need domestic chip manufacturing. Now, the naysayers will scream that it takes years to ramp that up. Well, we might as well get started while the sun shines instead of scrambling AND fighting a war.
Government has gotten involved in every business in the country. They subsidize healthcare thru Medicare and Medicaid. Imagine the true low cost of healthcare if people paid with their own money? Then homes, car manufacturers, college education, banks and down the line. Intel should fail but so should all the other businesses government is now the biggest customer.
Disagree Erick on the AMD front. They may trade on the NASDAQ, but the leadership of that company years ago moved their entire R&D operation to China. And people wonder how China has closed the semiconductor gap so quickly.
You had numerous chances to come out against Trump, and you knew what he was capable of. Now our nation is under siege by a madman wannabe dictator. Are you ready to stand up and say enough?
While I don't agree with this government being involved with any private business, literally nothing he is doing is remotely authoritarian, dictator like or damaging to personal freedom.
Trump is attempting to bully a state into releasing someone who broke a bunch of election laws and was convicted of such in that state simply because he views her as an ally (see his truth post below). But yeah he isn't doing anything remotely authoritarian - right?
I always believed that our nation could survive four years of Kamala but not 4 years of Trump. I believe that more every day as we slide toward authoritarianism. The co-equal balance of powers are gone. We are Germany 1933. Are you going to take a stand?
haha. Yes Coffee & Covid and particularly its comments section is fascinating to me. Jeff Childers sold out so spectacularly when he clearly figured out how profitable it is is now to just pump up Trump no matter what to an audience of people starving for political fan fiction that has Trump forever dominating his foes.

All of our governments need to stop edging themselves into what have been, in our pasts, very free lives.
😊🤗❤️
Totally agree. This is NOT what we voted for.

Who makes money pumping up Intel? Always follow the money.
Hear hear

A story like this doesn't seem to get much coverage on Fox or in conservative media eh? I wonder why that is?
When you speak, I hear, "Blah, Blah, Blah, scream, Trump bad, screech".
Of course regarding everything Trump we resort to disavowal
The choice was Trump or Kamala. I was fine with Trump.
Fair point. But I assume there is not a dem alive that would have been worth throwing away your career for either.

Give Trump time. Everybody always underestimates him ... to their peril.
I never underestimated him. That’s why I never voted for him.
Eric, when I get overwhelmed by the bad decisions of many, I will say this...."this too will pass" and it always does.
Waiting for the inevitable “Coffee & Covid” post about how Trump is Orange Jesus and us stupid skeptics are traitors. Don’t question it, idiots!

Since we the people are the government, I’d like to sell a few of my shares to pay my taxes next year!
