Remarkably, a party that controls just the United States House of Representatives is able to drive the conversation in America today. I realize the GOP controls a lot of states too, but that control is anathema to the press and dismissed by so much of the political establishment that views Washington as the only relevant power center.
Ron DeSantis lives rent-free in nearly every head. Donald Trump has now, as of last night, spent more money attacking Ron DeSantis, a man not even in the presidential race, than Trump spent in 2022 attacking Democrats or helping Republicans.
Glenn Youngkin, the Governor of Virginia, is rethinking getting into the race. It all has a lot to do with DeSantis’s perceived failures or failure to launch in a timely manner. DeSantis is really driving so much of the national conversation and he is not even a presidential candidate. Unfortunately for DeSantis, his delay is also driving other people into the presidential race.
Then there is the issue of transgenderism. The GOP around the nation has the public on its side, and the media is beside itself, apoplectic at the thought of Republicans preventing the permanent sterilization of kids. Even the Washington Post conceded the public is with the GOP and its “anti-trans” agenda, which is also known as a pro-kid agenda.
The GOP is also driving the conversation in Washington with the debt ceiling. For all the Democrats screaming, only the GOP has raised the debt ceiling, and Biden must negotiate.
I am amazed that the party, so often written off by the press as destined for the ash heap of history, is driving so many conversations. In North Carolina, the Governor yesterday beclowned himself, declaring a state of emergency because Republicans passed school choice reforms. Again, the Democrats are responding to the GOP driving the conversation.
That was not supposed to happen.
But, in truth, when the leader of the Democratic Party and the free world is an eighty-something-year-old buffoon who does to the English language what Gaear Grimsrud did to Carl Showalter, someone has to drive the conversation. Biden, driving the conversation, is like a senior citizen learning a stick shift for the first time.
Target Partners With Satanists
Friends, my family vastly prefers Target to Walmart, but we may have to stop shopping there. Target has partnered with an actual Satanist company to make Pride clothing. The so-called “PRIDE Collection” from Target will come from Abprallen, a company out of the UK, whose owner is a “gay trans man” and who celebrates Satan. No, I am not making this up.
You all really got worked up by Bud Light, but Target is working with actual Satanists. We are at a time for choosing.
Conservatives are mobilizing the institutions they control to fight back in the culture war and having success. I don't think this is because we've rejected Reaganism for post-liberalism, but I think this reflects the old conflict in the GOP between the grass roots and an establishment backed by the Chamber of Commerce. Exhibit A is how other candidates in the primary react to DeSantis's feud with Disney. It's notable that the Trump team is allying with the Chamber of Commerce which is siding with Disney. Forgotten is that Disney's bone of contention with DeSantis is that the latter passed a bill keeping educators from teaching about LGBT sexuality to elementary schoolers. We can fight back and win but nothing will change if we follow the Trump/Chamber of Commerce playbook of just going along with corporate wokeness. Conservatives should boycott Target and any other corporation that embraces this ESG crap.
The GOP should press the debt ceiling issue and now move to cut all funding for woke government programs. The default fears are just that. Like any business, the government will need to prioritize who they pay and how much and like other bankrupt businesses pay some on a late payment plan. Time for grownups to step up.
