Last we were all told, the Democrat Party was the party of equality. Should not a rule on equality for a woman of color NOT be welcomed by said party?? 🤔🤔

Thanks, Eric. This is one of many reasons I subscribe.

Wasn't this why NBC had to give Trump free air time after Kamala's appearance in SNL shortly before the 2024 election?.

I'm very much in favor of restricting the effects of money (campaign warchests) on political elections. Perhaps as a path to that goal, the Equal Time statute could be amended such that all federal-level election candidates were provided identical blocks/styles of media (time/copy/etc.) 'free', at each election cycle, with the stipulation that no media is allowed to be purchased, at any time, by candidates, their representatives , or PACs?

Well said, Linda.

LOL@Erick for expecting intellectual honesty from people who can't be honest about how many genders X and Y chromosomes produce, Biden's cognitive decline, or any other of the myriad TDS topics they rail against here. Thanks. I needed that laugh this morning. Be safe Radioman.

Amazing how illiterate the media and Democrats are as it relates to laws binding their own industry. Not surprising however. The incompetence as underscored by the performance of AOC, Gretchen Whitmer and Gavin Newsome in Munich demonstrates how intellectually challenged and fraudulent the Democrats are. They truly know very little and are entirely incapable of governing with any logic. All they really have is “against Trump”. A vote for any Democrat this fall is akin to choosing to fly with a pilot that has no pilot’s license. Normally, I’d say buyer beware but in the case of voting D you may well be putting your life at risk.

You are so right. They are the shiney objects that attract voters with no sense of country.

they just want the power. Sadly if I had any confidence in the voting population AOC would have been long gone along with the rest of the squad and Mamdani would never have been elected.

We just need to make sure those who support the Democrat thinking don’t rule the roost come November. Vote…and take as many like minded friends along with you! VoterID will help a lot.

Interesting that candidates for the Libertarian Party, which has qualified for ballot access in all fifty states, rarely have received equal time from the media…

Good point... 🤔

That's a lot of ink and airtime that you have given this media equal time farce. I sense you are a bit worried about Talarico. No need to worry, Crocket will win the primary and lose bigly to Paxton.

As an aside on Necessary Roughness - QB Paul Blake is not that far off in age of QBs now playing college football. I guess sometimes life imitates art.

Even for someone who doesn't care much about it, that seems to be a pretty simple thing to understand. It also seems rather trivial. We pay attention and make a big deal out of the silliest things.

Linda Gray's avatar

Thank you for the explanation. Is anyone else just plain tired of politics on both sides?

Is Russia going to war with Europe? Are we going to war with Iran? Those are a little more important than who gets more air time for their political candidates. Look at what we have reduced ourselves to. The media needs to get a grip on what’s real.

more lies promises and stuff that will never happen

For the party that always claims that American democracy is under assault, Democrats love finding different ways to bend the rules during their primaries. On the other hand, it's interesting seeing the dynamic play out as both parties are trying to put forward a preferred candidate against a raging populist. It appears that Talarico has the fund-raising advantage and is outworking Jasmine Crockett narrowing her lead in the polls. On the GOP side, John Cornyn has the fundraising advantage over Ken Paxton but is barely keeping pace in the polls. If Wesley Hunt were to be taken off the ballot in a runoff, would his supporters go to Paxton or Cornyn? I think the assumption is that they'd go to Paxton.

What's the main take away from this? Democrats are better are controlling their side's populists and controlling the narrative through media personalities like Colbert. Republicans still don't have an answer to the populists in their party who threaten to take the party of the cliff by aligning behind unelectable candidates. The overall dynamic points to the Democrats gaining ground in Texas while Republican power wanes. Then again, the Democrats have been dreaming of flipping Texas for some time and have been stymied because Governor Greg Abbott has a well-run election machine to generate turnout. However, Republicans in the Lone Star state have gotten complacent. Is this the year Texas flips back to purple? God help us if that's the case!

Another frustration, James Talarico deserves a Republican running against him who can credibly refute his interpretation of Christianity. A Progressive PCUSA Presbyterian, his interpretation writes out of the Bible social teaching on gay marriage and abortion while twisting the commands to love our neighbors as justifications for open borders and the welfare state. The social gospel advanced by Talarico is not Christianity but it will be trumpeted as such by the media and the Democratic party because their aims are to push secularism and hedonism in the US. And of course, the GOP answer is a man like Paxton. Both parties claim the Gospel, but their actions show what they actually believe in.

"The social gospel advanced by Talarico is not Christianity " Not trying to say this argumentatively because I'm sure I would disagree with him on gay marriage at least but do you consider the current Republican party to be a good presentation of Christianity or if it's even necessary? The reason I ask is i know a lot of evangelicals who simply dismiss anything that they can brand "social gospel", such as most of the Tim Keller books. A lot of good is included in that group.

Israel Bigelow's avatar

Good points. I don't believe either party is a good representative of Christianity, merely that the GOP is the lesser of two evils. Yet, the whole scthick from Talarico is that conservative Christians are actually Christian nationalists and not "real Christians". Real Christians agree with Talarico's politics and vote Democrat like Jesus did. This is recognized as a distortion by most if a Republicans does it but when a Democrat does it people accuse me of over generalizing when I call it out.

That being said, you may be right that I might be a little bit too strong in my argument here. After all, I don't disagree that following the teachings of Jesus would also contradict many on the Right as helping the poor, the widows and orphans is a central teaching. Progressive Christians are not always wrong to call out conservatives for being hypocritical and often do so in good faith. But heresy or idolatry often takes bits of Truth and distorts it. The Prosperity Gospel and Nationalism do so for many American Conservatives on the Right. As Alisa Childers argues in her excellent book on the topic, there is a subversive aspect of Progressive theology that leads Christians down the path of deconstructing their faith. In the end, these Christians may think they advance the true Gospel but have been led astray.

Nice to have a friendly debate with a conservative Christian again. I left the church i was in in 2018 over the child separation policy. God tired of being told to "man up" over separating children from their parents with no plan to reunite them.

Israel Bigelow's avatar

Good talking to you too. Your experience at your old church sounds outright depressing. I'm sorry you went through that. Christians often fall short, but I don't think that means God gives up on us. There are good churches out there and I wish you the best in finding not full of so many Pharisees.
