I have said repeatedly for the last four years that the left would eventually get their own Donald Trump. Every character flaw and imperfection they despise about Donald Trump will eventually manifest itself in one of their own and they would refuse not only to acknowledge it, but they would defend it.
Andrew Cuomo
Look no further than Andrew Cuomo. The fact-checkers are doing their best to defend Andrew Cuomo. These “fact-checkers” are progressives who couldn’t make it as real reporters, and so they decided to be fact-checkers and call everything on the right a lie and everything on the left truthful or “it's complicated.” Here's the Editor in Chief of PolitiFact, one of the most left-wing publications out there, on Andrew Cuomo.
I think the situation in New York is really complicated. Certainly there are things to criticize about how the Cuomo administration handled data, but the heart of the matter goes back to last year when the state was asking nursing homes to take in patients, COVID patients who were ready to be discharged from the hospital. We don't see hard evidence that that made a significant difference in COVID deaths. If you look at the statistics, New York is about having the same numbers as other states around the country, and the issue was employees, workers in the nursing homes who didn't realize they were bringing COVID-19 into the nursing homes. So it's a really complicated situation. There are no clear-cut answers here.
Really? What about Florida? Florida has a larger population and per capita far fewer deaths than New York. DeSantis refused to allow COVID positive patients back into nursing homes and saved a lot of senior citizens' lives in the process. I mean, look no further than NBC News's attack against him. This is one of the most amazing sentences I have read in the media. Here's the headline, "Florida governor accused of playing politics with COVID vaccine." Here’s an excerpt:
Ron DeSantis, a Republican, ignored federal guidelines and prioritized getting senior citizens, one of Florida's most potent voting blocks, vaccinated first. When Holocaust survivors and Cuban survivors of the Bay of Pigs debacle, revered members of two other key Florida voting blocks got their first shots, DeSantis made sure he was there for the news conference. And now the governor stands accused of using the COVID-19 vaccine to reward powerful political supporters and developers by setting up pop-up vaccination sites in planned communities they developed and where Republican voters predominate.
Wait a second. He's giving them to senior citizens, which is what the CDC wanted. He didn't have to give them to nursing home citizens predominantly because he protected them. He protected nursing home residents in his state, unlike Andrew Cuomo. But you've got Brian Stelter on CNN saying, "We didn't really give Andrew Cuomo a pass. Did we?" And the Editor in Chief of Politifact replying, "Oh, well that's a complicated situation." These people can't acknowledge the fact that they would behave exactly towards Andrew Cuomo the way they condemn Republicans were behaving towards Donald Trump. They have Cuomo's back because they love Cuomo.
Kudos to Jake Tapper at CNN for calling out Cuomo. He's one of the few to be vocal about this at CNN as the data has come out, and so much of the press refuses to say anything about Andrew Cuomo while the rest of the station won't even acknowledge Andrew and Chris Cuomo. Here's Jake Tapper on CNN:
We just saw a small but respectable number of politicians willing to break with their partisan allegiances and criticize an intimidating leader in the face of loss of life. I'm not talking about the seven Senate Republicans who voted to convict Donald Trump: Senators Burr, Cassidy, Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse, and Toomey. I'm talking about the small number of Democratic officials in New York, publicly expressing outrage after the latest development in the scandal surrounding New York Governor Andrew Cuomo and the numbers of New York nursing home residents who were fatally infected with COVID.
You may recall the Cuomo administration last March told nursing homes, "No residents shall be denied readmission or admission to the nursing home solely based on a confirmed or suspected diagnosis of COVID-19." Nursing homes took in thousands of seniors with COVID, potentially infecting thousands more, such as 89-year-old Norman Arbeeny. After the Cuomo directive, his family pulled him out of a nursing home after he already had gotten a fever. And Arbeeny died at home from COVID. Now, did he get COVID because of Cuomo's directive? We don't know for sure, but his family says it's not rocket science.
It's not rocket science. Tapper's one of the few to call out Cuomo in the mainstream media. Democratic politicians are largely circling the wagon while New York politicians are not. Its national Democrats and the press circling the wagons around Andrew Cuomo, a man with a long record of bullying and harassing people who dared to speak out. He's condemned, for example, Janice Dean at Fox News for pointing out his logical inconsistencies on handling COVID, his anti-science approach to handling COVID. She has said for months that he is covering stuff up, and sure enough, she was right. Now NBC News is attacking Ron DeSantis for the audacity of giving senior citizens the COVID vaccine and putting COVID vaccine centers in areas where there are a large number of senior citizens because they vote Republican. NBC News is apparently okay if the senior citizens there die.
These people for four years attacked Donald Trump for everything. They could not help it. They had to do it. I have said for those four years that they would eventually get their own version of what they perceive as Donald Trump and they'll never recognize it or admit it. They will deny it and defend that person to the end. Here comes the governor of the state of New York from the Cuomo dynasty, who gets fluffed up every night on CNN by his brother for months without ever a consideration that it might be a conflict of interest until recently.
We have his staff in closed-door rooms saying, "Yeah, we lied. We covered it up. We were afraid that Donald Trump would make political hay out of it. So we had to be quiet. Sorry, we didn't give you the data. Sorry, we let the old people die."
The Democrats have said for four years, they would be intellectually honest and would stand up for truth, calling out their own side. They would never do what they said Republicans did to Trump. Well, we now know for certain Andrew Cuomo engaged in a coverup. At the same time Ron DeSantis in Florida was saying, "Don't send senior citizens back to nursing homes if they've got COVID," Andrew Cuomo was saying, "Pile them in," knowing what would happen. The media would still rather attack Ron DeSantis than attack Andrew Cuomo.
They are who we always thought they were.
You give Tapper far too much credit. While he sometimes speaks truth, he is a tried and true Democrat leftist. Read his quote again. Was it pertinent to his point to state "I'm not talking about the seven Senate Republicans who voted to convict Donald Trump: Senators Burr, Cassidy, Collins, Murkowski, Romney, Sasse, and Toomey"? He is pandering to his leftist minders here hoping that he does not get called out for his "attack on one of ours." Had I wrote this in a paper my writing instructor would have red penned "what the hell does the second impeachment of Donald Trump have to to with Cuomo's dereliction of his duties and responsibilities as Governor of New York?" Tapper is like the kid who jumps into the shallow end of the pool wearing water-wings.
Of course they are...this time last year they wrote a slew of nauseating articles about him being "America's Daddy", "America's Sexiest Governor", they fawned over him like puppies as he shoved grandparents into nursing homes to die. DeSantis saved lives, sure, but...they might have been Republican lives. Can't have that!
