Hope you're feeling better, Erick. (At least you're well enough to resume writing.)

While the GOP is not a racist organization, racists and antisemites are tolerated, and this gives the wrong impression.

I disagree, I know many more Democrats or other who are frankly antisemitic and racist. My former boyfriend for one.

I wasn't commenting about the Democrat party.

I’ll prescribe it you give me some names but they really need an antipsychotic.

Sad but true. A large segment of the Dems resemble buzzards circling in the distance, in search of an elephant caucus.

Even so, the party of Lincoln, Eisenhower and Reagan must find a way to extricate itself from the loser of 2020, or they will have hell to pay.

Our very first President, George Washington, had an opportunity to steer our fledgeling republic in a direction of authoritarian leadership. In the wake of George III, and taking charge of a newly-birthed, untested republic, Washington chose to allow that We the People idea to find its true American course, instead of establishing himself as loudest bully in the room.

The loser of 2020 carries far more responsibility for the demise of the GOP than the Dems.

This party-image problem needs to be solved by a collective effort from Romney, Ryan, Rubio, Sasse, Pence, Kasich, even Boehner, and whole slew of young Republicans who are willing to take on the task of dragging a severely-injured elephant out of the trumpian mudhole. Before the buzzards make their move.

Sorry, you lost me at Romney, Ryan, Kasich and Boehner solving GOP party image.

Everyone claims they hate a bully, yet look at those to whom the American electorate gravitate: Trump, BLM, Antifa, the media, etc. These people/organizations make their livelihood through name-calling, intimidation, vilification, mockery...all tactics embraced by bullies, and I think that's a big part of why we're so divided. In our polarized nation, people celebrate when their "righteous" bully takes down the opposition's bully, but they're still both bullies. I loved that Trump pushed back HARD. But he had no boundaries, no filter, and perhaps worst of all, no loyalty. I voted for the guy, but I much prefer someone with Reagan's ability to push back. He did so firmly, gently, confidently, convincingly, and with a smile on his face. He was a true leader, the real deal.

Well, I don’t love a bully, but what I appreciated about Trump was his ability to cut through the liberal noise and just point out obvious foolish things liberals and mealy-mouthed republicans let continue. Trump’s noise, though, could go over the top, which minimized his effectiveness.

Crash in the previous comment, says it’s a cult of personality. For some, he may be right, but I don’t think for most. I kept getting offers via email to ‘meet with the president’ (after a contribution, surely), but I never wanted to. Just liked his effective policies, no cult.

Expand full comment

It's not a cult of personality? How else do you explain it? Need to stop worrying about the leftist boogeyman and wake up to what is going on on the right. These policies many of you are so fond of...is Trump the only person capable of advancing these policies? I dont understand the attachment to Trump despite his lies about the election. It makes no sense as to why there shouldn't be a bipartisan commission to investigate 1/6 and the security lapses that occurred. You have the rep of NW GA talking about it looked like a normal group of tourists walking through the capital. He is being deceitful because I know the exact clip he is referring to of people walking through t

Statuary hall taking pictures walking thru the velvet ropes but to characterize the events of 1/6 as a normal tourist visit is ridiculous. Erick is on here playing politics also, not being 100% honest about what is going on and not calling out the right on all of their BS either. I subscribe to hear rational thoughts from someone on the right that I respect and pay my $ to subscribe to hear his thoughts, but this is intellectually dishonest to suggest that nothing said by the left has any merit. Third party now!! The extremes on both sides are taking over and we need a 3rd common sense, no nonsense party to step in to fix this BS that is dividing the country.

I worry about people who can’t post their real name or a picture.

Here's the problem with the "3rd common sense party" solution. It's only going to split the GOP vote, leaving the Democrats permanently in power.

Expand full comment

There are more than a few people, especially many black people, whom are more culturally conservative than people realize but not a monolith, are tired of the democrats and would consider a different party? The GOP just cant get out of it's own way long enough to make inroads with those communities instead they want to double down on polices that do not generally work towards the good of minorities. Just the fact that such a small percentage of blacks vote with the GOP to begin with should clearly illustrate that there is a disconnect with the policies of the GOP and many people of color. The GOP looks at if it's not a GOP problem, it's the people's problem. Bottom line is, if Biden doesnt come through with his promises to the black community MANY will be looking to vote elsewhere and I can assure you it wont be for the GOP if Trump is the leader. There couldnt be a more perfect time for a 3rd party IMO.

You’re right, Trump is not the only person capable of implementing sane policies that benefit all. Erick is also right that a Jan. 6th commission’s only reason for being would be to give the liberal media something to help democrats for 2022. If there’s a commission that only covers a riot on 1/6, but does not look into the many riots of 2020, it’s only purpose then would be as a political tool for the democrats.

Expand full comment

The dems will have the very political tool you speak of if the senate gop votes against the bipartisan commission. Pelosi will just hold a select committee in the house and do the investigation themselves. I have not heard a legitimate reason for not having a 1/6 commission. The only reason the gop is against it is because it most likely would be damning and possibly hurt 2022 chances. Absolutely investigate the other riots including the one where the troops violently moved protesters out of the way in DC for Trumps photo op in front of the church. Investigate Kenosha where the kid killed 3 protesters and was able to leave the scene. Investigate it all! What are they afraid of?

Expand full comment

If the other riots are also investigated, I don’t see a problem...except that I don’t trust nary any of those democrats to look truth in the eye and call it fairly. It’s all politics to them. And with a compliant, democratic media, unable to be non-pattisan, the commission will be another witch hunt to hurt republicans in 2020.

And that’s if he really did lose Erick. As much as it would be easy to say let’s move on, I’m not convinced we should. Voter fraud has always occurred at a variety of levels. Perhaps people went to far this time. We should find out.

Expand full comment

He really did lose. So the Republicans on the same ticket won their local or state elections but in the same areas Trump lost? So it was just fraud that hurt Trump but no other republican candidates? What about 2016 voter fraud? Trump claimed it happened then too. What did his 2017 voter fraud commission find out when it reviewed the 2016 election? Not a damn thing....the GOP leadership thinks its constituents are stupid and will fall for anything. I wish people would realize that. The dems think their voters are dumb also. Third party now!

Irrespective of the 1st Amendment, public figures, Companies, telling lies should be illegal. We as a country, are suffering from the inability to tell the truth about anything, even Judges operate on that narrative. Our legal system operates on the lie narrative. The GOP does not have the balls to stand up to the lie-narrative, change laws and be ruthless in their power. Power is the root of it all. Breaking up that power is crucial. While I am

Not a fan of Dem control, it does hep with clearing out the GOP. Due to our 2 party system, we have to first clean out the bad GOP. Yes, that mean short term pain but for the future of our kids, we must. Many in the GOP are part of the lie at any cost narrative. Unless we elected better people who are ruthless, both parties look to be the same party in the center.

Expand full comment

Who decides what is a lie that becomes illegal? Why does anyone think this is a good idea? Suppose such a law is passed when conservatives are in power. We enforce it against things that are obvious lies to us. Fast forward to a time when progressives are in power. They decide that "Jesus was raised from the dead" is a lie. We can't prove in court that he did. All the Christians become criminals now? Think this stuff through please.

Your point of view is like saying, Pizza Hut makes the best pizza, it’s clearly opinion based. Now to call someone a racist, that has a legal definition and past court cases. Think your post through please.

I first read "1984" in1953 while in 11th grade. It scares me to death. I just re-read it, and am amazed how it embodies the current CRT and "1619 Project" push. Big Brother's slogan was "Whoever controls the past controls the future. And whoever controls the present controls the past."

“They are obsessed with painting the GOP as fascist and a cult of Trump, not because of reality, but because of the 2022 midterms.” It’s not a cult of Trump? Really?

Expand full comment

No, it is not a cult of Trump. Many people who were opposed to Trump as a candidate in the first place, were pleased with his actual results, while still not being fond of his personality. It is the policies that really count.

Expand full comment

This is where the right lose me. Trump is NOT the only person that can promote the policies you like. Since when does the character of a person not count? Although it is an oversimplified example, it's like praising a drug dealer because he pays for kids' private school tuition and gives out free turkeys to the needy at Thanksgiving and toys for tots during Christmas. Forget how terrible of a person he is, look at all of the good he does for the community. It's ridiculous to be quite frank. To want someone like that to represent the community and in the case of Trump the leader of the country. It's embarrassing.

Expand full comment

You aren't making any point when you call people who vote on policy a cult. Of course Trump isn't the only one who can promote policies that are good for the country and I don't know who you think said he was. But he was the one AT THE TIME who was the candidate. Now I, personally, hope he does not run in 2024. At this point I would much prefer DeSantis, who I believe, at this point, has good policy ideas with a less confrontational attitude but who still does not back down from the viciousness of the left. While you are hung up on "nice", as are most republicans, the left is tearing the country apart and selling it out to foreign nations. So hang on to your smug idealism of only voting for personality and ignoring the horrific results you will get with the left.
