I read all of this, and I agree with the new legislation completely. I also understand the GOP's need to satisfy the base request for reducing voter fraud. However, why did they not think of the optics when signing the actual bill? Could they not have found a better painting to stand under? Maybe add a brown or black senator observing the signing too? We all know how this works, and this was dumb: https://www.inquirer.com/opinion/georgia-governor-brian-kemp-painting-slave-plantation-20210326.html
I wish someone would explain to me the thought process of Georgia Republicans who decided (in great numbers apparently) to not vote in the last Senate runoff elections. They thought that the election would be stolen by the Democrats so they stayed home and ensured that the Democrats won????
Erick, again I agree with you on substance, but don't understand the tone deafness of the Republican Party in dealing with the time, place and manner of making these changes. Why do it now? Why not give the election a few months to cool off and have hearings later. The Republican Party does have a history of stupidity on this issue - I live right across the state line in NC and remember one of the reasons McCrory lost to Cooper in the same election that Trump beat Clinton was because of asinine Republican emails talking about how to suppress the Black vote.
Why does "The Left" think that voter ID requirements discriminate against Blacks and/or other people of color? Do they think that they are so inept that they can't acquire an ID, even though it can be provided for free ifvthey can't afford one?
in the Wall Street Journal this Saturday was a great comment. 'Antiracism is the new incontestable virtue that every kind of bad faith and self-interest hides behind'. Holman W. Jenkins.
The hysteria from Democrats over this bill 💵 is ludicrous but not at all unexpected & of course our own AJC (Atlanta Urinal & Constipation) is stoking the fires with their slanted editorials. Democrats are all too eager to be “suppressed”.
appreciate the facts and analysis Erick

This needs to be shared. OY
Thank you for a very thorough explanation of the new Georgia voting laws.
Thanks for your honesty. I’m so glad you are the one who took Rush’s place on WSB. I think he’d be pleased they choose you.
Good read, hope it gets the voters to the poles for midterms.
Now, SHOW UP FOR MID-TERMS, CONSERVATIVES!
Great piece Eric! Praying other states will do the same!
Let's hope that other states follow suit.

Thanks for the explanation in detail. Good piece.

Do you not have to show ID’s to receive Food Stamps and other government benefits?
And to:
- Drive
- Rent a car, apartment, or truck
- Buy a house
- Hook up electric, cable or phone
service
- Buy alcohol, prescription drugs, or
tobacco
- Buy a gun
And many other things. So, what is the problem here?
