Turns out the voters really do want Brandon to go somewhere away from the levers of American power.
It was a huge night for the GOP.
The media really does a disservice at times like this. They and the Democrats are so within the same bubble that the press cannot institutionally do justice to these elections. They are, like their Democrat friends, always and forever convinced the GOP is on the verge of demographic annihilation.
Instead, in Virginia, Glenn Youngkin won the Hispanic vote — not a plurality, but a majority, according to exit votes. Youngkin won the gubernatorial race. The GOP won the Lt. Governor’s race with the first black female Lt. Governor. The GOP won the Attorney General’s race with the first Hispanic Attorney General in Virginia.
Also, the Braves won the world series.
What a night.
New Jersey, at this writing, is too close to call, which is a disaster for Democrats. Republicans swept judicial races in Pennsylvania. They are even, right now, set to win a city attorney race in Seattle, WA.
Turns out voters really don’t want to get mugged. They really don’t want their businesses firebombed. And, if they are parents, they really don’t want their kids being fed a bunch of racialist B.S. that is designed to provoke, divide, and indoctrinate.
Democrats can tell themselves everything was about Washington. A lot of it certainly was. But that angst against Washington then allowed the GOP to amplify local grievances around the country. Those local grievances sealed the deal. It was not Critical Race Theory, but critical race theory as indicative of the Democrats being both aloof and out of touch on education. It was not crime so much as the Democrats siding with the criminals. It was not Joe Biden so much as … okay … Joe Biden had a lot to do with it. Voters really hate that guy and his agenda.
Voters put Joe Biden in office with a mandate to not be Trump. Biden took that and ran hard left. Instead of a return to normalcy, we have COVID and drag queen story hour and boys on girls’ sports teams and inflation and high gas prices.
It was not just the culture war, but the culture war and economy together that did in the Democrats. The economy turned voters against the Democrats. Crime and education locked them into the GOP.
Turns out the Democrats were just renting the suburbs. Voters have evicted them now and restored the GOP. The elections the year after a president takes over are big indicators of the midterms. The Democrats are awaiting a blood bath.
Lastly, and this is a big one, the GOP should shut up about stolen elections now. If the Democrats were so incapable of stealing Virginia, a state they controlled, they were not capable of stealing a presidential election that depends on swing states, multiple popular votes, and an Electoral College.
It’s time for the GOP to move beyond Trump the candidate and figure out preserving the Trump policies voters embrace. The GOP can win, just not with Trump himself moving forward. His voters will have to decide if they want him or his policies. With the former, they’ll get nothing. With the latter, they could get everything they want.
It's so much more than education; it's the entirety of the progressive agenda which has sparked an emphatic rejection of all things "woke".
My only regret is that the Braves clinched the World Series in Houston; it would have been a well deserved comeuppance had Commissioner Rob Manfred had had to present the Braves the championship trophy in Atlanta, in front of the fans he so summarily dismissed as racist rubes when he moved the 2021 All-Star Game to Denver.
Terry McAuliffe followed Hilary's 2016 playbook to perfection.
1) Run a horrible candidate
2) Espouse lousy policies
3) Self-inflict a wound with an off-script moment that tells the average American what they think of them. His "basket of deplorables" moment was his "I don't think parents should be telling schools what to teach."
I hope Dems across the country follow the playbook in 2022 & 2024.
