It's so much more than education; it's the entirety of the progressive agenda which has sparked an emphatic rejection of all things "woke".
My only regret is that the Braves clinched the World Series in Houston; it would have been a well deserved comeuppance had Commissioner Rob Manfred had had to present the Braves the championship trophy in Atlanta, in front of the fans he so summarily dismissed as racist rubes when he moved the 2021 All-Star Game to Denver.
Terry McAuliffe followed Hilary's 2016 playbook to perfection.
1) Run a horrible candidate
2) Espouse lousy policies
3) Self-inflict a wound with an off-script moment that tells the average American what they think of them. His "basket of deplorables" moment was his "I don't think parents should be telling schools what to teach."
I hope Dems across the country follow the playbook in 2022 & 2024.
Virginia has a potential rockstar in the making in Winsome Sears. I was so proud of her message and her convictions. What a great member of the Youngkin team as they work for the founding values of our country and lead Virginia out of woke bondage.
Unfortunately, she's ineligible to run for POTUS (or VPOTUS) because she's Jamaican-born. But House/Senate? I'd vote for her in a heartbeat if I lived in VA.
I just watched two NBC commentators implying that the Democrats lost, not because voters rejected their agenda, but because they didn't manage to get enough done. So...apparently (in their Democrat minds), the failure to pass their sweeping socialist agenda through Congress made people decide to vote Republican instead. Seriously. Whatever helps them sleep at night, I guess.
Einstein famously said "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results". So I say "double down Democrats and prove him wrong!"
A great night indeed. And right on about the media being out of touch. The NYTimes this morning had this to say, "Why are voters so unhappy with Democrats? The main reason appears to be the pandemic, which has disrupted everyday life and the global economy for longer than many people expected." And as far as Trump is concerned, I've never voted for the "person" in an election, only their policies, but Trump's presidency IMO was vital in terms of shining a bright light on things such as the administrative state, and it showed us what is possible when we hold our politicians, foreign allies, and trading partners to account. For a brief moment in time, we enjoyed some of the greatest economic prosperity this country has ever seen. But like you, I hope he doesn't run again because it would simply be too divisive. Time will tell.
*****It’s time for the GOP to move beyond Trump the candidate and figure out preserving the Trump policies voters embrace.**** YES, YES. A THOUSAND TIMES, YES
Understand the sentiment. One must admit that it took a (boorish, narcissistic, bombastic) Trump to step all over "business as usual" in DC. Mean tweets and lack of statesmanship, yep. Taking relatively few prisoners, yep. Dramatically changing complexion of policy, also yep.
Biden was tied up for months unwinding all the changes Trump put in place during his 4 years. I like Ted Cruz, but IMO he would not have been willing to stomp all over the toes of the liberals and get the stuff done Trump managed to squeeze into his 4 years.
That said, not sure about giving Trump another go at the WH...
"If the Democrats were so incapable of stealing Virginia, a state they controlled, they were not capable of stealing a presidential election that depends on swing states, multiple popular votes, and an Electoral College."
This is a complete non sequitur. There is obviously no need to 'steal' an election in a jurisdiction that you 'control' electorally. It's pretty well established that McAuliffe's support collapsed in the last two or three weeks. The VA Democrats didn't think they were going to need to activate the cheat machine to get him over the finish line, and likely didn't have time to mobilize sufficient ballot harvesting and vote by mail fakery. This kind of stealth wave is not going to happen in every election, and was not happening in the 2020 Presidential election the way it did in 2016.
The most likely location for cheating are highly populated Democrat-controlled subdivisions of states to influence state-wide elections which is exactly where the problems lie, and is also exactly what's needed to win the EC. The mostly likely scenario for Trump's reelection was a win in the EC with a no more than a razor-thin popular vote total. Since Trump was obviously going to win a significant popular vote total despite COVID (remember he got more popular votes than any prior GOP candidate), the Democrats activated the fraud machine with two goals. The first was to flip a few close states to give Biden an EC majority. The second was to pad the total popular vote so that even if Trump won a majority in the EC his popular vote total would be underwater, giving them an excuse to pressure electors to defy their state popular vote totals as they attempted in 2016.
I too have trouble with the Eric's logic. I believe they not only were capable of stealing Virginia via the absentee ballot route that they would have tried it had they had a inking of the outcome a month in advance. Recall at that time Terry McAuliffe was leading by about 5 points and there seemed no reason to cheat. Then McAuliffe opened his big stupid mouth (God bless him) and declared that parents had no say in their children's education. Within the next two weeks Youngkin pulled even and a week later took the lead. About a week ago Marc Elias, the big Democrat election lawyer, came to town to look things over. I suspect he told the Virginia Dems that it was too late to pull it out of the fire.
You have been given the ball GOP now don't fumble it. We need a candidate that puts America first, not a career politician. Show me that candidate. You all may not like Trump (personally I wish he would not run) but look at all the crap that he had to put with in 4 years. Now, look at what he still got done inspite of it all.
Winsome Sears - the perfect Republican. We need more leaders like her. She has a calm presence, speaks the truth and is not afraid to call out Democrat leaders and debate their claims. I will follow her closely - a rising star.
Your best point: if they were incapable of stealing Virginia, a state they controlled, they weren’t capable of stealing 2020. But I agree with everything you wrote!
Ok I’ll give you Trump policies but not Trump. But how do we as Republicans do it without the fervor, patriotism, creativity, confidence and healthy backbone of a “Trump”-and most importantly, with a voice that can be heard? Where is that candidate?
Not a great analogy given theological differences, but Trump was to "business as usual" in DC as Martin Luther, "the wild boar in the vineyard" was to Catholicism in the Reformation. Neither were gonna get done playing paddy-cake with the establishment.
"It’s time for the GOP to move beyond Trump the candidate and figure out preserving the Trump policies voters embrace." That poses a potential problem in that Trump already has a track record on those policies versus a contender who can only give lip service during the runup to the election. And of course, there are many people that secretly or openly admire Trump's brash, F-the-world attitude. Yes, I'd LOVE to see someone other than Trump embrace his policies and his America-first approach, but if Trump throws his hat in the ring he'll be very tough to beat, like it or not.

Love this good news! Love the idea of Trump’s backbone and his policies without the personal drama. I’m thinking Ron DeSantis. What do you think?
Amen and amen.
I love how Desantis recently referred to it as "the Brandon Administration'."
CLASSIC!!
I agree. Desantis/Noem 2024!!

Footstomping your last paragraph.

Praying one emerges soon!

It takes someone with a backbone to push policies like Trump did. Said person with a backbone isn't likely to be adorned by folks.
I don't need to like the politician who implements policies I like.
The most important line: "the GOP should shut up about stolen elections now." I pray they actually do that, but I'm not confident.
Amen brother
