In the age of smishing and phishing I don't know why banks continue to send stupid emails.

If some consultant thinks I am going to click a link to make a donation they are beyond stupid.

I get the same crap supposedly from Republicans. It's so irritating that I suspect it's actually Dems. Since the Dems send me the same crap (I never, ever donated to a Dem, ever) I guess it's all genuine

Thanks so much for writing this. I also commented on your IG account I think (maybe Twitter). Your inbox looks like my inbox (AND SPAM FOLDER). Every day this nonsense fills up my inbox and the vast majority are for candidates I cannot vote for as I don't reside in their state. It takes a considerable amount of time each day to delete or file off anything I might want and I've tried NUMEROUS times to unsubscribe yet these same emails continue. I don't know if they just resend from a new email account or what but it's infuriating. I'm politically attentive enough that I know who the vast majority of these candidates are and if I want to donate I'm sure I can find their websites. And I generally donate to only a handful of candidates with any kind of national profile anyway. The Trump ones are the worst. I think I EASILY get at least 30 a day and probably more. I'm always happy right after a general election because they generally die down for a while (but never long). I think if you ever donated to the GOP/RNC they sell that list like drug dealers selling crack. That's the only way I can think of that all these campaigns and candidates etc got my email address. Anyway thanks for writing about this and hopefully some of these consultants will take the hint. We are all bombarded with political information all damn day and it would be nice to look at my email and not have to see all this junk (and far too much of it DOES make it through my spam filter).

Great article and good comments. Just want to caution, though, about allowing oneself to get incensed, then cutting off one’s own conservative nose to spite one’s conservative face. I mean my inbox is as sad or sadder than Erick’s but I’m not going to start despising these candidates or the Republican party because of foolish tactics. I will donate my small portion to the candidates I choose and ignore the spam. Must keep our eyes in the big picture - liberal democrats should never be in charge of ANYTHING except, maybe, gender studies. We must stand together - ‘ultra maga’s and rinos’ to take back our country from insanity.

Thanks for shedding light on this issue. I’ve been inundated with these requests and wondered how I got on a list since I haven’t donated to any campaign since Bush in ‘99. I refuse to give any candidate -- even one I support -- money for fear of these nonsensical money grabs from across the nation.

What a mess!

I have not donated to GOP since 2012 when after losing an election I received 28 calls the weekend before Christmas asking for donations. ! year I agreed to a donation to Tea Party Patriots 3 times, but wouldn't donate over the phone. The promised envelope for mail in contribution never came. I too get email requests which I never respond to. BUT the thing I hate the most is the mail and call from NRCC saying I had not responded to the pledge I made to his assistant Becky Sprague. Or the recent call from Harriet Hageman WY. saying she did not receive my $35 pledge. LIES. I will never donate to NRCC and though I do not like Liz Cheney. that election is for WY. to decide. Plus I have zero respect for a candidate who lied about a pledge I did not make. Thanks for your article. I hope GOP is listening

The volume and negativity are both reasons I have pulled back from general support. Thanks for summarizing the issue.

It's not just the volume of emails. The messages are extremely negative. They all claim that it is a disaster when we all know that it isn't. I'm not sure how I got on the list. These emails are so annoying that I've almost decided to never give money to another campaign.

Just one more way Republicans are trying to level the playing field. They literally hold ALL the cards this election cycle, yet they continue to find ways to make themselves as repulsive as their Democrat counterparts. Is this your idea of differentiation?? If Republicans under-perform in November, I'm sure will you will dredge up stolen elections as cover for your ineptitude.

I get all those emails too. I have tried to unsubscribe a few weeks ago and everyone of them continued to come. It's a joke and very annoying.

Such a timely post, I to have noticed the huge increase in emails from Republican candidates that I had never contributed to or signed up for their email list. Super annoying.

Google flags them all automatically, but I supplement with a program called SpamSieve.

I never gave a dime to Trump after he said that he was rich and didn’t need our money way back in 2016. Yet, WinRED and Don Jr. have sent me various spam SMS messages on his behalf many of which don’t even have the STOP to opt out option .This bombardment of unwanted junk is not how to win friends and influence people. Great post, Erick!

...and also their emails look like phishing attempts. You should tell them that too Erick.

I need to count up my deleted emails from these people. I didn't sign up or donate to any of the groups that fill my inbox.
