I have been thinking a lot about Teddy Roosevelt and Donald Trump. Roosevelt was a rich New Yorker that accurately captures popular anger and used it to defeat the GOP establishment.

That’s where the comparison ends. Roosevelt was sincerely interested in improving the country (even if that meant working with democrats) and he wanted ti leave the GOP in good hands when his time was done (William Howard Taft was his right hand man)

While Roosevelt loved himself. He didn’t love only himself. That is the key difference.

I wish Republican donors could be smarter. If the Republican Party pulled together, it would be even better. Why did the Republicans align the agenda with only Donald Trump? They should state their policies and mention him sometimes, but instead many bought into the name brand hook, line and sinker. If a donor donates to one candidate and not the party, the Republicans send out stupid questions like "Are you a socialist? Are you a Democrat?" and many other ridiculous headings. It is not a good way to win anyone over. I will vote Republican, but if I was an independent, these crazy tag lines would make me skeptical. The Republicans are always outsmarted by the Democrats. I sure hope the party gets it right soon or the outcome may not be good.

Don't underestimate the ability of the GOP to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory.

Here’s a crazy thing. My husband and I are both registered Reps in NC and we’ve received almost no mail or email solicitations from candidates. I wish I could say my inbox was flooded but it’s not. I personally think things are starting to look bleak for the GOP.

I pray Trump won't run and will just go away. Fat chance, tho.....

In a General Election, wouldn’t it actually be better NOT to have Trump Money, or Activist Billionaire Money behind you? While I agree with the grift sentiment, I wonder if being your own man might make a bigger statement. See Brian Kemp in Georgia.

While I agree with you about Kemp’s appeal as someone who is his own man, we also know he is up against the Abrams’ campaign, which is the biggest money-making political machine in the country. Abrams continues to rake in millions of dollars from wealthy donors on both the east and west coasts. She is able to largely control the airwaves in Georgia with relentless ugly, largely false commercials about Kemp. I saw a new poll yesterday that shows her up one percentage point over Kemp.

Yep. I don't get the left. Why would you want to destroy Donald Trump. He helps them more than Soros does.

Erik, you touched on it a while back. The GOP does not know how to fund raise. My junk mail is slammed with fund raising emails that come from Trump and other prominent GOP politicians, telling me they need my money to save the world.

There is no focus. No plan. No agenda. Just Republican Good - Democrat Bad. And all of them claiming to be raising money for America.

Starting to look like these clowns my snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, once again.

Exactly. I don’t want to give anymore to campaigns because the solicitations are insulting. Why insulting? A person would have to be an idiot to believe any of it.

You summarized it perfectly. No focus. No plan. A party without a leader and hijacked by a Narcissist who’s willing to let revenge, hatred and ego lead us into a train wreck.

Actually you did a better job than I. LOL

Erick - sorry about missing the 'C'. It's 8:18 and has already 'been a morning'.

Oh this is going to get you in trouble with the Cult, Erick. But keep telling the truth, not Trump's "truth" but the real truth.

I wish Trump would just go away.

He might…if the Democrats would allow it. They keep him on the front page, every day, a new (or recycled) Trump story, opinion piece, threat of a lawsuit against him or a supporter.

When I saw the headline I thought it was about grifting off of Queen Elizabeth II.

2 years after his loss he is still grinding his ax. As you said, getting even is not a winning strategy.

It is looking more like his strategy is that of Adam Sutler : I want this country to realize that we stand on the edge of oblivion. I want every man, woman and child to understand how close we are to chaos. I want everyone to remember why they need us!

If Trump decides to run I hope the GOP does not give him a dime in the primaries.

We got to get past Trump. He comes to Georgia to complain how the election was stolen which caused thousands not to vote in the run-off and now you have a Democrat run senate. How's that working out for our country? Shows up again in Georgia and tells us we'd be better off with Abrams. He can't get out of his own way. Where's the Republican leadership?

On the federal level - who are the R leaders? The only leadership I see is in the states - DeSantis, Kemp, etc.

There should not be PACs. You should be able to give money to whoever You support and not have to worry about your money going into a big slush fund.

Trump is destroying the Republican party on many levels. It's almost as if the Democrats hired him to do so. But in the end it's the Republican party destroying itself, with Trump as the instrument.

I always get appeals from pacs. They go into the trash. I will donate directly to a candidate.

Donald Trump is only interested in Donald Trump. When will the marks of his grift figure this out?

Trump - the grift that keeps on grifting… I appreciated some of the things he did as President, but it’s time for him to sail off into the Palm Beach sunset.
