Apologies for hijacking an otherwise serious column: How does a turkey get cooked by smoking it at 300 degrees for only four hours?

I'm thankful for your occasional homilies that help me become a better person. I'm also thankful for National Guard volunteers who put their and give their lives for me to be safe.

Happy Thanksgiving to you, Erick, and your family.

The Afghan shooter targeted a female, one of two National Guard members ruthlessly shot yesterday. We pray for their recovery, for their families, and thank all the Guard, ICE, and protective services for what they do day and day out. They deserve our full support.

Happy Thanksgiving! Praying for their quick healing and safety of all who protect us. I made your yummy gravy, my drunken spiced peaches, 2 kinds of homemade cranberries with dried apricots (one with spiced rum) GF dressing and heading to friends for dinner. Everyone stay safe & enjoy the as Erick says the best holiday for just enjoying each other.

Happy Thanksgiving. My husband and I flew to California yesterday to spend the holiday with my children. My husband has no children and maybe, for that, I’m grateful. I sat by a Deep South Georgia woman and she shared her entire life story with me and I listened. It happens every time I travel. Complete strangers pour out their lives to me. I’m grateful. She blew away any stereotypes or assumptions I may have had.

I wanted a can of ginger ale when the cart came by, but the attendant told me she had no cans. The young man in the seat in front of me turned and offered me his freshly poured ginger ale. I politely declined and asked him why did you want me to have your ginger ale? He replied “because you wanted ginger ale.” Kindness.

I watched a movie entitled “My Mother, Jayne Mansfield” directed by her daughter Mariska Hargetay. I cried. I watched “Nonnas” and cried. I’m grateful and extremely blessed. Thankful for America and her people.

Let's set aside the politics for one day. Let's pray for those soldiers and their families, pray for those who are without and for those who will serve them. I will pray for my sweet little granddaughter we lost just a few weeks ago, and I will pray for all of you. May our plates be full, our hearts be joyful, and our turkeys delicious! Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanks giving. The day of turkey football and family. Not necessarily in that order. I’ve never gotten up early for turkey cooking.

Some thanksgivings I’ve spent with family at big galas.

Others we went to golden coral. And still others Waffle House.

Usually just depends on what we feel comfortable with.

I am thankful that I can and thankful that I am still here to do so.
