It has been postulated by EE that “Warlock” was elected because Trumpers stayed home and did not vote. Hopefully, these voters are smart enough to see what they have in “Warlock” to vote him out no matter which Republican candidate runs.
I’m wondering how the Trump endorsement will play out here in Georgia since the party did so poorly in the last national election. Risky business no matter how affable Mr. Walker appears to be.
This is a hard one...I have grown up in Georgia and graduated from the University of GA in the 80's. I like Herschel. I think he definitely would help GA. It all comes down to...if the Conservatives, Republicans, and independents really get out the vote...he will win. If not, Warnock is reelected.
I've had a chance to spend some time with Herschel in a business setting and he comes as incredibly likeable and engaging. I've said if you spend 5 minutes with Herschel you would think you were lifelong friends. He cares deeply for people. The question is, does a skill set as one of the best players to play college football transfer to serving in the Senate? I really don't see it. Even apart from the baggage we are a time in history where we need the most experienced and talented people serving in public service. I ask myself if I would hire Herschel to Senior Management in my company and I have to say no. He just doesn't have that type of experience. Now, would he be great with clients in sales? Absolutely. On the campaign trail he will shine, he is a natural salesman for sure but not the person we need in Washington.
I can’t disagree that the most talented and brightest should be in the Senate, but I believe that’s largely not the case. Would Biden meet the criteria you mentioned? Seems there are plenty of smoozers and pretenders there now. An honest man with a good heart and a great supporting cast could do wonders. Does Herschel have the chops to debate well and help steer our country? I can’t say. Erick’s cautions and advice are great wisdom. And the other primary contenders should vet Herschel well by challenging him on everything fairly and see how he responds. They shouldn’t hold back and let the primary produce the best candidate to replace Warnock.
Oh, absolutely true that the bar is set low. When we look back at the intent of the two houses in Congress, clearly, we need a good cross section of backgrounds, experience, education levels, income levels, etc.... especially in the House. Just look back over the decades and we have had some real characters. I equate it to the House of Commons in the UK and clearly, this is a freewheeling mix of every strata.
James Madison states the intent when they crafted the Senate was ""first to protect the people against their rulers [and] secondly to protect the people against the transient impressions into which they themselves might be led." I have to ask myself, is this Herschel? Does he have the leadership experience to handle himself in this complex political environment? Is he okay with being at odds with people he would consider friends? It's an environment where nice guys get chewed up. I don't want that for Herschel or for the state. Yes, you are absolutely correct. Herschel has lots of baggage and this is just what's out there. It is unlikely he can overcome it and win the general.
I am not a Georgian, but I have heard of and from all these candidates. The one who would have my vote were I in Georgia is Latham Saddler.
Never mind what Raphael Warnock may have done with or to his wife; what matters is that he is another radical Marxist that the Democrats have trotted out to advance their agenda, and that he needs to go.
I would vote for Herschel in a second over Warnock. He's got an amazing story.
From dirt-poor in rural GA to a Hall of Fame worthy career in the NFL, along with being a Olympic bobsledder. Then, he's become a successful businessman.
His story should resound among Blacks compared to the Dems' message that all Whites are racist oppressors and Blacks are oppressed victims. That message HAS to pull some level of support away from Warnock among Black Dems.

Get ready for he's "Not a real black man" argument.

You may be correct. We have to put the best candidate forward.
Because losing to Warnock is not acceptable.
Is the LOSER of the 2020 Presidential election TRYING to hand the Senate over to the Dems? Sure seems like it in Georgia.

I have to agree about the "name recognition"...I've never watched a football game in my life, and even I have heard of Herschel Walker.
