So, Donald Trump's in the end all about,,,, Donald Trump. He's always been that, so why should anyone be surprised now? That's one big reason why I voted Libertarian in 2016, although his performance in office compelled me to vote for his reelection in 2020.

Fortunately, we now have in the emergence of Ron DeSantis a potential candidate who can be an effective leader without the mean tweets and the self-aggrandizement. Iy is impossible to ignore the irresponsibility of Trump's endorsing good challengers in a year where a Republican flip of both Houses of Congress is both possible and desperately needed and then failing to put his money where his mouth is. By doing so, he manages to strengthen the position of those in the GOP establishment who seek to co-opt the Trump loyalists prior to rendering them irrelevant.

I never knew that about the candidates being from the same state. It makes perfect sense though. How in the world did the founding fathers think of everything? It's pretty amazing. Also you really do learn something new every day.

Throwing the Senate races in '20 did it for me. He can best serve the party now by dropping dead (and I sent $thousands to both his campaigns)

Great article! Egocentrism & narcissism are generally not considered to be great character qualities. For some reason, these qualities found in Trump are minimized or ignored. I hope people listen closely to your arguement!

I refuse to give through Winred. Almost impossible to donate without them making it a reoccurring donation. I have had to be vigilant when my husband donates to make sure it is not reoccurring. He says he never checks that box.

Republicans need to provide alternate way to donate to the individual campaign.

I agree with what has been said here about Trump. Trump should step aside and give the Republicans a real chance. You are familiar with polls, etc., but I can't help but believe that it's not over til it's over, i.e., the election is held and the votes are in. Sometimes I think you are way too optimistic about Republican chances, particularly in GA. I support Kemp and Walker.

I voted for Trump once! I hope I never get the chance to vote for him again.

Speaking of grifters, I recall you mentioning Marcus Flowers, the Dem running against M. T. Greene. Somehow, I am on his mailing list and get multiple fund raisers per day despite never responding to any. The AJC had a good piece about that race and the tiny percentage of donations going into campaigns. MTG is nearly as bad - both are “National” politicians.

I need some clarification. The Constitution and the 12th Amendment both state that the President and Vice President cannot be from the same state. There’s no “penalty” as you describe. Did I miss something?

For years I read it exactly as you did until a Supreme Court Justice explained to me that intro language means electors in a state cannot cast a vote of the President and Vice President are both from that state. In other words, it is possible, but the votes from that state won’t count.

Thank you for that explanation. The same net result but an important nuance.

President Trump, thank you for all you've done. Now it's time to step aside.

I am not a Trump fan (altho I did vote for him twice) and it DISGUSTS me that he's sitting on all that cash and/or using it for his own personal benefit, specifically his exorbitant legal fees. He put up (some) questionable candidates in states we really need to win and now won't put up money to help elect them? You can bet he'll absolutely take the credit if they win. He governed much more conservatively than I thought he would and I appreciate his judicial picks, his economic policies that saw my 401 value soar and his foreign "policy" that kept our enemies quiet. That being said, I truly hope he doesn't run in 2024, I also know that his ego won't allow it. Our country desperately needs younger blood throughout the Executive and Legislative branches.

Thank you for addressing this!! I have been concerned about how to be certain money we contribute is going directly to the candidate or to a pac. I am afraid some I’ve given has gone in the big slush fund, while my candidates plead for more. What can WE do to be clear it’s going where we want?
