I’m disgusted by this election season. Both parties have nominated terrible candidates whose supporters have decided to behave terribly to bully people into supporting their terrible candidate. The rest of us are stuck.
In 2016, when asked who I’d vote for if someone put a gun to my head, I said I’d choose the bullet. In 2024, I’ll support Donald Trump. But I’m not happy about it. And there’s no use pretending to be. The only people more insufferable than the diehard cult of personality Trump supporters are the Republicans who’ve abandoned all their principles to vote for Kamala Harris claiming Trump is somehow worse than a career politician who has never embraced anything beyond the fringes of the far left.
Here’s what I really think about it all, like it or not, it’s time to be frank.
I've said it once, I'll say it again: Every contest on every ballot needs a standard option to vote for: "NONE OF THESE CANDIDATES". If that one gets a plurality, then everyone listed there is thrown off the ballot and a new election is held with all new candidates.
Like you, Trump is not my choice, but I will hold my nose and vote for him. He is not a nice person, in fact he is an AH - but, we did not elect him once to be a nice person, we elected him to do a job and he did it. If we wanted a nice person, we would have reelected Jimmy Carter.
I would have preferred DeSantis; he could get the job done without all the vitriol and antagonism, and there would be a probability of a second term.
I predict that, if Trump is elected, the media firestorm will be like nothing we can imagine. They will poison the electorate to the point that it will be impossible for another Republican to be elected in our lifetimes. That is the price we will pay for selecting Trump as the nominee.
