The Reagan era FCC's decision to scrap what I call the Unfairness Doctrine cleared the way for someone to take talk radio out of the era of what Rush called "swap shops and recipe shows" and into determined advocacy on the conservative movement. Rush leaped at the opportunity to do just that, and we conservatives owe him a heavy debt of honor as a result.
Now, IMO, the Biden era FCC is being structured to possibly take a run at what Rush created. It will be a daunting task for Gigi Sohn, should she be confirmed, to try to roll the clock back, and Internet radio, podcasts, and satellite radio now exist, which make any such attempt largely a moot point, even if successful. However, that the left seeks to have as FCC head a blatant partisan and enemy of free speech is ample testimony to the revolutionary effect that Rush had on that medium, and on political discourse in America as a whole. Yes, he will be missed; but his legacy is everywhere we choose to look, and for that, we can thank the Lord that he lived and carried on the mission as he saw it.
Well said, Erick. I miss him too. Immensely. Still not over the shock of him being gone. I’m glad that you had the opportunity to have him as a mentor & I’m thankful that we get to listen to you.
Well said, Erick. Love your thoughtful remembrance which exemplifies to us all how we should always be mindful of those who paved the way for us, pointed the way, and found joy in our success.
That is a great tribute to Rush Limbaugh. My deceased husband always listened to Rush, but also got your Emails and listened to "Erick the Red". I get your Emails and listen to your programs. I appreciate your programs and writing and it is more introspective and I do like the Christian spin you add to your comments. Thank you for being "You".
Rush had a way of making me laugh and his optimism was so welcome! He let me know I wasn't alone. You may never be Rush but your faith and thoughts are just what I need to stay sane today! Rush would be proud!
My attraction to Rush stemmed from him seemingly being the genesis of original thought. In my experience, when it came to very deep and/or insightful comments, Rush generated more original thoughts than all other talk show hosts combined. Many of those comments became conservative talking points and/or show prep for other hosts. Perhaps the greatest compliment I can extend you Erick is your ability to do the same. No, you're not Rush - yet - but you possess his ability to postulate, develop, and articulate ideas that I've not heard elsewhere. This is precisely why I subscribe.
Wash got me into politics back in the 80s during the Clinton years. He never failed to entertain animes. His death created great sadness in my heart. I admire him for so many things but I honestly believe we would not have a conservative party today without him.
Wonderful tribute Erick. I miss him too. I had the privilege of meeting him a few years ago at a National Review Institute get together in Palm Beach. Surprisingly humble and approachable--and always smiling. I miss him too.
He once had classical music in the background. He mentioned the artist and I ordered a CD. For what ever reason, the artist had committed suicide. Others also like the music and ordered it and the artist was briefly at the top of the Amazon sales.

I think Rush would appreciate this:

Thank goodness he pushed you. We're all so much better off! I miss his camaraderie and his humor and never letting the left get under his skin!
I cringe thinking where our country would be today had not Rush come along. He was the rock we conservatives always needed.

Yes, so greatly missed and hoping he’s watching over American to continue his influence and goodness.

I got a lot of insights from his callers. People out in the trenches develop great ideas. Rush will be missed.
Rush gave we every day Americans hope and inspiration. He could not be missed more than he is today!
