One of the heuristics I have for evaluating candidates running for office is asking the simple question “what else have you done?” Individuals running for office who have done something with their life outside of politics oftentimes have a broader perspective and more unique insight into American life than those who have maniacally and singularly focused on running for office.
However, the loudest voices online with the DC connections get major donor funding and often win. If the Republican Party wants to win and govern well, we will ignore the screaming youthful voices on Twitter and instead find someone who has done something with their life and can relate to the voters they need.
Those who have worked for and made a living outside of taxpayer-funding will have a broader insight to people and their lives.
Seems to me like we had some candidates whose lives fit that description but who were labeled as horrible candidates.
