On Christmas Day 1863, Henry Wadsworth Longfellow wrote the poem we now know as the song “I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day.” Earlier in the year, Longfellow had unsuccessfully pressured his son, Charles, not to join the Union Army.
God has given us the gift of life. Do what you may with it but be ready to answer when he wants the gift back. May we all come out of this Christmas season renewed with hope and Grace towards our fellow men. And when God calls, we may all hear, well done, good and faithful servant. God Bless and Merry Christmas!
My prayers for your dear wife, you and children that God will fill you all with assurance, love, strength. And God's healing. God loves you all so very much. If you were the only one on earth, He would still have suffered and died for you. Amen
Thank you Erick for this wonderful story. It reminds me of the fact that no matter how terrible things in this world can become-there is a God in heaven who greatly desires a relationship with each one of us. But He leaves the choice to us. He would never force anyone to go the way that is taught in the scriptures. May the readers of these comments choose rightly! Merry Christmas everyone!
Throw the switch to the "off" position for two weeks. We can get by for that long without your excellent understanding. Get outdoors as much as possible together. Enjoy beauty from your God.
It's always good to get "the rest of the story". Thanks for that from Longfellow.
Last night, we had a beautiful Christmas gift...... it was watching Kevin Costner's "The First Christmas". Highly recommended. Take time to watch, with your family. Put everything 'on pause' for a couple of days. Create a space in your life for quiet, reflection, and Peace.
Just when I started feeling sorry for myself over some menial things that were going wrong, I read your piece and it brightened my day. Thank you for your continuing insights, ideas and positivity about our nation and world. Today and every day since becoming a subscriber, I am thankful for Erick Erickson. Merry Christmas.

This is a time of testing and spiritual warfare. The faithful are being tested and attacked.
