Last Friday, 3,943 miles south of the North Pole, here in Macon, Georgia, the Northern Lights were visible with the naked eye. They twirled and danced across the sky. They left pink and purple hues and colored the moon. I drove my family out into dark farm country away from city lights and we beheld the spectacle. The next day, I posted a piece on here, “
I think if we allow ourselves to be victims and we are generally miserable, then we have succumbed to evil. If we choose to embrace beauty and the life that there is to celebrate all around us, then the spirit of God prevails. Have a wonderful day!
After speaking with you a couple weeks ago, I can better hear the joy you gave in your life right now Erick! At the time of the conference you had just discovered your daughter does not possess the genetic marker that your wife does—and I heard you make that announcement on your show! You have experienced many difficulties & heartbreaks. Yet your joys keep coming! To a pastor of a small church, you are such an encouragement to me. Grace brother!
Thank you for the reminder Erick! And congratulations on your daughter's graduation. I am a breast cancer survivor and I so appreciate what you and your family go through every 6 months when your wife has scans.
Keep up the good work and keep sharing that heart of gratitude- it pleases our Lord!
When you mentioned your listener's comment a little while back, it troubled me, too. I've been too busy worrying about worldly things to consider why I was troubled and what my reaction should be. Now you've gone and done it again. You've done my thinking for me and you're right on the money. "It's all falling apart, the world is a terrible place, woe is me" is not wisdom from Heaven. Instead, that sounds like how Screwtape would have coached Wormwood to disrupt his Christian patient. This is one more debate that I no longer feel tempted to join -- the Lord has already provided us with the answer. We mortal Christians cannot eliminate all the world's sinfulness, but that's not our goal. We are to love the Lord and treat our neighbors as we would like to be treated. God has the rest covered -- and He has already told us how the book ends.
To be honest, I get the commenter's angst and despair, but I so appreciate you're reminding me that few things have really changed in history. Every generation of believers has had the opportunity to look at the world around them and see one of two things...Our loving, patient, merciful God is in control of this fallen world, or Satan is winning. A good slap on my wrist is necessary sometimes. Hallelujah! to the King of kings and merciful Savior. Where would I be without Him? Keep up the good work in spreading the Good Word.
I've often thought your best writing was when you talked about the majesty and wonder of our Lord--this piece confirms my opinion. Outstanding work, Erick! Congratulations to your daughter and to your wife. Thank God for His blessings and mercy!
I have always been a glass half full sort of person. There is so much beauty and good in this world, I feel sorry for the lefts perspective of wallowing in the negative and miserable. That is a choice I will never make. I am a 3x breast cancer survivor which has not been fun, but I am doing well thanks to modern medicine and plenty of prayers. "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Believe in God and believe in me." I do.

Amen my brother

I’m part of the breast cancer survivor club as well. Man what a crazy ride that was but I am so happy and grateful to be here. Cheers to us!

Spoiler alert: God wins, Satan loses.
We are to be happy warriors. Emphasis on the "happy".
