Well, that was interesting....

False religion may bring comfort

For a short time here below.

Kwanzaa may bring happy “feelings”,

But mere feelings come and go.

Will we heed the tribal counsel?

Can we trust it…thick or thin?

Will we turn back to the desert?

Will we recognize the sin?

Is now “progress” segregation?

Has all common sense been banned?

Will we follow in the footsteps

Of blind, proud “Whatever Man”?

* * *

Dare we gaze into the mirror?

Will The Tribe bring peace and rest?

Will re-segregation save us?

In false hope, can we be blessed?

* * *

When the bleeding is internal

Band-Aids will not save the day.

No, the wide road spells disaster.

Better: seek the narrow Way.

Can there be true liberation

After all is said done?

Can we know true Light of Mercy

If we’re running from the Son?

Thank you for enlightening us, Erick. I have shared this with others, but they want to know your source(s).

Not sure of what the point was with this article. It has a very negative tone and Im not sure what you hoped to accomplish by posting this. Im pretty sure very few if any of your newsletter readers know about or even cared about Kwanzaa. Here is a article about what Kwanzaa represents and how a person that celebrated it wrestled with continuing to celebrate after learning about its creator's sordid past. Was Paul always a Christian? Didnt he perform heinous acts prior to being saved? Really not sure what you're trying to get at except bashing liberals and the state of California. Based on this Im sure you agree that monuments and buildings honoring Confederate traitors need to be removed or renamed due to the heinous acts committed by those people also, correct? I didnt expect this from you Erick. https://www.latimes.com/opinion/op-ed/la-oe-griffin-kwanzaa-20181223-story.html

I appreciate your desire to bring facts forward. However, in the case of Kwanzaa, your column will do more harm than good. I'm not black, but I have lived in the midst of black culture for over 50 years. Those who celebrate Kwanzaa are almost all Christians and do not intend to repudiate their faith when they celebrate being African-American. They find joy in it and don't know about the background facts you have shared. By inciting white Christians to disparage and hate Kwanzaa, you are contributing to further racial division. It reminds me of my parents' saying, just let sleeping dogs lie.

“ They find joy in it and don't know about the background facts you have shared.”......that statement is very telling.

OMG I had NO CLUE! I never gave it much thought, other than it was a new holiday, and didn't seem to allow white folks. I had no idea a lunatic started it. Thank u for the information.

Thank-you for making this phoney 'holiday' so clearly explained.

Excellent! Your writing style balances your points in an almost musical fashion (crap, my suck-up light just flashed)—okay, I liked how it sounds.....

Gutsy move in this environment, but a much needed one!

Could have spent all that energy doing good things for the AA community and chose to put it here. This has nothing to do with nothing except one's self.
