"I, too, think many Republicans are telling pollsters where their hearts are (with Trump) and not where their heads are (moving on)."

I don't think this is correct.

First we need to be honest that Biden was never a popular candidate. We also need to be honest that without the pandemic and mass mail in ballots that 85% of OECD countries ban due to fraud and the inability to prove it in court, DJT would still be president. Lastly, we need to honestly assess the reasons that Trump was elected in 2016 and admit that all of those reasons have been amplified since Joe Biden took over. Frankly, everything that Trump warned the electorate about the Democrats has been proven both true and understated by Trump.

The primary driving force behind Trump popularity was the feelings and facts that the top 20% of income and wealth was not only pulling away from the bottom 80%, but that the top 20% was actively engage in activities aggressively hostile and destructive to the bottom 80%. Democrats have just INCREASED that evidence. Trump is the lightening rod for all the frustration and anger against the ruling class establishment... and Joe Biden represents the ruling class establishment.

Nothing is getting better. Inflation has exploded. Interest rates have exploded. Bankruptcies have exploded. Personal credit card debt has exploded. Crime has exploded. Illegal immigration has exploded. War has exploded. Domestic and international conflict has exploded.

And around all these explosions the people are fed a line that Trump is a threat to Democracy and the republic.

People are just wising up that a revolution against the establishment is required.

Of course, the national elections are important, but your local, county, and state elections are MORE important... especially your local. Too many conservatives think that if we can just get "our person" into the presidency, then everything will be fine. That is true to a large degree, but it's not even half. Remember that GW Bush had both a GOP House and Senate for a time, as did Trump. Some good things happened with Trump, but with GWB it was "democrat-lite". EVERY elected position has power, no matter how small, it DOES matter. We need conservatives on school boards. City Clerks. County Executives. Drain Commissioners. University Regents. Dog Catcher. EVERY elected position we can get. The Left has long understood this, and that's why they've been so effective at steering things their way.

Given there were prewritten pieces before last year's midterm that placed the blame entirely on Biden for a Democrat massacre I think the lamenting about Biden's age is an excuse to obfuscate the success of liberal policies and the destruction of the economy.

If the economy was good, if we didn't have inflation, if everything was not ridiculously expensive while wages can't keep up the Democrats would be defending Biden because Biden probably would be ahead of Trump in the polls.

It is the economy not Biden's age that drives the poll results. Democrats don't really care about the border except when it creeps into poll results.

I can't help but wonder, if Biden drops, does Trump retain his popularity?

They are getting ready to replace him. This election cycle is getting ready to change dramatically I think.

I think polls are very wrong and the data does not reflect reality. With 60-70% of voters saying they want someone else other than trump. It will be interesting to see what happens in the primary.

But regardless. If trump gets the nomination he won’t win. Period. That’s a fact.

There’s too many independents and people who dislike dems but will never vote for trump. Equally significant is those who would vote for any republican if it wasn’t trump.

In a generic republican matchup against Biden it’s not even close.

So that’s the answer at the moment. If trump. It’s bust.

Absolutely. PRAY that our nominee isn't Trump. If it is, we're going to lose. Too many Republicans will not vote for him. They may vote for down-the-line candidates, but they won't be filling in that oval next to the words "Donald J. Trump".

All the GOP primary candidates are doing irreparable harm to their reputations long-term, save for Vivek. They sound like they are running in a world 25 years past. They need to all suspend their campaigns and begin the process of helping to save their country.

Good and sobering analysis.

Someone has to beat Biden!

This guy is awful…he said that when we were “flat on our backs “ that he vaccinated the country and brought back our economy …he says no president has done more !!

Whoever is actually running the country we need a change even if it is Trump🤓

The answer to why Trump is leading is threefold: 1) he is the former President and that in itself carries tremendous weight; 2) he did do several good things to include the economy and Supreme Court judges; and 3) the overtly political indictments (except maybe what he did in responding to the classified document saga - not keeping the documents) gives the correct impression that the Biden administration and the Left (but I repeat myself) is using the power of the government to keep him out of the election which makes Republicans reflectively want to support him. (I would say what they are doing is a greater damage to democracy than anything they have accused Trump of.

All that being said, Trump's comments about negotiating with the Democrats regarding infanticide will cost him - to what extent we will see if those of us in the pro-life movement are really serious about ending legalized infanticide in this nation. My fear is that we are not, and Trump will slide into the nomination making the Republican party the infanticide-lite party.
