Lying About Leon Cooperman
A doctored clip sailed around the world spreading lies about a billionaire to inflame tensions.
I don’t know Leon Cooperman, but this pisses me off because I fell for it. Leon Cooperman is a billionaire investor. He was on CNBC earlier and it appears Leon Cooper attacked the Redditor day traders who drove up GameStop’s stock price. Here is the clip. You can see for yourself that Leon Cooperman attacks the Redditors using their stimulus checks to drive up the price.
There’s just a problem.
The clip is doctored, or more accurately completely edited. If you watch the time stamp in the lower right corner you’ll see it jump from 11:31am to 11:35am in the blink of an eye. I didn’t realize this until I played the clip (appropriated bleeped) on my radio show. A listener who had seen the interview live called me to tell me the clip was doctored because he’d seen the live interview.
Here’s what Cooper actually said over a wide ranging interview that lasted over twenty minutes with back and forth and other guests. The first part of the clip actually praises the Redditors for using the system with their stimulus check, but Cooperman says it isn’t going to end well.
What Cooperman is actually calling “bullshit” is Joe Biden’s upcoming tax policies. Here’s where that comes from.
Cooperman was not attacking the Redditors. He defended their right to trade like everyone else trades. He attacked Biden’s policies as anti-growth in the name of redistribution nonsense.
The clip appears to originate from a progressive activist. The original clip, as doctored, got over 3 million views and was then amplified by DiscloseTV.
Twitter claims it is combating disinformation, but is still allowing progressive activists to spread disinformation. Most notably, this disinformation is domestic propaganda designed to inflame already heightened tensions between the middle class and the elite in the nation.
Leon Cooperman just happened to be the guy getting smeared this time and a lot of us, myself included, fell for it. It also explains just how easy it was for people to fall for lies and doctored videos about the election.
We all have to be more careful and if big tech companies are serious about ending disinformation and purging bad actors, they are going to have to take on the left, not just the right.
On a closing note, I’d like to give kudos to the Georgia Bar Association, which seems to be the only group willing to intervene over Lin Wood. The organization is demanding Wood take a mental health exam if he wants to keep his law license. The man needs some help. Maybe this will get him what he needs.
The progressive left seems to believe that they won a war, not an election. Treating Americans like a conquered people who can be lied to and manipulated with impunity may end up being the worst mistake they’ve ever made. I still believe there are Democrats who, while they may have voted against Trump, will still stand up for America if they go too far.
The left will lie, cheat and steal without hesitation...have we not figured that out yet?
