Yes. However those legislators from multiple states did not take this action carelessly nor nefariously. We are still battling the results of our election in AZ for very credible reasons. Anyone that states there was no election fraud has their head in the sand.

Thanks for the reminder, we’ll donate to Pence’s campaign today.

Show me in the constitution where it says the VP does not have the authority to send the conflicting electoral votes back to the states for resolution. You are not correct!!

Why didn’t VP Al Gore send Florida’s votes back, in 2000?

Expand full comment

Because Florida took care if it. They didn’t send electoral votes to congress until they resolved the winner within the state.

Thanks, Erick. You remind us of why we appreciate Trump, despite his many weaknesses. He has been "The Man in the Arena" for us. Never, in all my 75 years, have I seen any American persecuted to the extent of Trump. He stood for us against the Left and the RINO, and they responded accordingly. Yes, Pence is a decent man, but is no threat to America's internal enemies. Pence doesn't make a ripple, much less any waves.

I like Pence but doubt he can win the nomination. For what it's worth here's my current order of Republicans for President: 1) Desantis, 2) Scott, 3) Pence, 4) Haley, 5) Ramaswamy, 6) Trump, 7) Hutchinson, 8) Burgum, 9) Christie, 10) Hurd. And I probably wouldn't support Christie or Hurd at all.

I’ve listened to the excerpts of the Tucker interview. The way Tucker framed the question, the last part being about American cities, Pence’s response of “that’s not my concern”, seemed to be about the cities. He said it twice. Why didn’t he clarify his response? With his experience he should know that he must be very clear in what he says. Clarify it and make sure we know exactly what he is talking about.

Mike Pence is not the guy of 2024. Haley,Vivek, DeSantis, or Scott are the best. Vivek will go to places no other Republican will go and he always represents Republicans well. Trump did good things, but was manipulated by the media because he does not have the speaking skills or a temperament to think before he speaks.

I am a Hoosier, first met Mike when he ran against Phil Sharp. Good man. I watched the full, unedited exchange with Carlson, and frankly, I thought Pence did a very poor job. Both body language and voice inflection dispute your take. I am predisposed to his candidacy, but he, along with many others, is lost in the weeds over Ukraine. We can't control our own borders--how do we control Russia's, and at what cost? Over a couple of provinces that not one out of 1,000 can pinpoint on a map?

I have more than one reason for not thinking Pence is a good candidate--including what he did to Michael Flynn and several of his disappointing decisions as a governor. Also, it was NOT unconstitutional to ask him to let the elector counts go back to the states on January 6--he did not stand up for the constitution when he denied that. If he ended up our final candidate, of course I would vote for him, because I could never vote for a democrat, but never Pence in the primary.

Honestly, Pence looked like a Neocon fool in that interview and Tucker shred him and rightfully so.

Yeah, he’s super Christian advocating a civil war in which a large percent on both sides are baptized and are killing each other in combat. I think Pence may need to review the Beatitudes.

I like Mike Pence. I think he is a man of great integrity and conviction. He would make an excellent President. However, no matter how you try to polish it he made a dog's breakfast of the response to Tucker. Tucker had just listed most of the ills and abominations our country is facing today. Pence replied, "that is not my concern". He then doubled down and repeated again "that is not my concern". He should have emphatically stated what he apparently meant to say "Ukraine is not my only concern etc." He did a decent clean-up at the end using the typical references to US leadership, security etc. But the die is cast. That clip will be used relentlessly before the primary.

I usually agree with you Eric but you are flat out wrong about Mike Pence. I cannot and will Not support Mike Pence for the only reason that he threw Michael Flynn under the bus when the Trump Administration needed him so badly. And, look what the FBI and DOJ did to Trump in the forthcoming years. Pence doesn’t have what it takes to stand up to adversary he doesn’t deserve to be the President of the United States, period!!

I would not hesitate to vote for Pence if he were the nominee. My concern is we need some if not most of the Trump voters to join in voting for the nominee. I fear if it is Pence as the nominee the Trump supporters will not vote for him. I don't like it but I fear this is the situation. In the primary I will be voting for someone not Trump and sadly someone not Pence. Pence is without question a good man.

Amazing how so many defend our ridiculous involvement in Ukraine.

What’s wrong with arming the Ukrainians to fight rapacious, murdering Russian rapists? I am an old Cold Warrior, and trained to go - with many thousands of others - to go fight in the Fulda Gap. And you think we should appease Putin and allow him to reconstitute the Soviet Union? How old are you? I remember when the US military was huge, and trained to fight in two separate Theaters simultaneously: we can’t do that, now. How did appeasement work in September, 1939? This isn’t an existential fight for the Russians, but it *is* an existential fight for the Ukrainians. A Ukraine that is trying to clean up its corruption and become more Western is *not* a threat to Russia... it is a direct threat to Vladimir Putin and the Silovicki. They cannot allow Russians to watch the Ukrainians improve, because the Russians might start asking, “Why can’t we do that?” 20% of Russians still have outdoor toilets, and the life expectancy of a 15-year-old Russian male is the same as a 15-year-old Haitian male. Look at Russia’s Demographics: they don’t have a lot of people to send to war.

Sadly, John Birchers and hippie populists now control the GOP.

Actually, if you took a look at the diplomatic history of the past twenty years you would see that this is much more of an existential threat to Russia than it is to Ukraine. But if you want to swallow the Neocon narrative being fed to you and being used to keep us in as many external conflicts as possible, feel free.

Don’t be a fool. NATO is the threat. And NATO is a surrogate to the US and its interests. I can assure you that if the continental US had a NATO-type alliance on its border and expanding we would be far far more aggressive than Russia has been in this conflict. Besides, how it is possible for our government to be spending tens of billions of dollars to defend the territorial integrity of a border 6000 miles away when it can’t defend our own?

When does it end? I didn’t care for the politics of Gen. Powell years ago, but his military advice was spot on. Go to war only when you have to. Throw in the kitchen sink to make it short. But the most important was to have an end plan. What is our end plan and how do we know when it occurs?

In September 1914 everyone thought the war would be over by Christmas. We are still paying for the consequences.
