The Post just released an excerpt from Kagan's recent book (probably what he was talking to Joy Reid about), which excerpt I found to be one of the most thought-provoking pieces that I have read in a long time. Basically, Kagan argues that MAGA (or more specifically, Christian nationalism) is the culmination of the Founding Fathers' fear about a "decline in public virtue," about which Kagan writes, "The people had to love liberty, not just for themselves but as an abstract ideal for all humans."
Whether you agree or disagree with him, I think you may find Kagan's piece a compelling read:
