Instead of politics today, let me urge those who are able to donate to Hurricane Helene relief.
I generally recommend the Salvation Army because, unlike the Red Cross, virtually every penny goes to relief.
Please avoid griping in the comments complaining about the Salvation Army. Right now, they are on the ground cutting down trees, feeding families, providing shelters, and doing what must be done. Every penny you give them goes to help.
There are towns with homes washed away. There are neighborhoods that will not have power for hot meals for weeks. The destruction from the hurricane was intense.
If you can, give. If you prefer a different charity, give there. But please consider helping your neighbors.
It is more than unfortunate that a truthful commentary such as this is necessary.
In addition to local first responders, the actual first responders were Samaritans Purse, the Salvation Army, Baptist relief, UMCOR, churches, and literally thousands of individuals and companies who hit the peddle and have and are bringing aid and comfort to areas in Upper East TN, Western NC, GA, SW Virginia, and Florida.
No waiting to be told what to do…just action where, when and how needed.
This is America at its best…free-enterprise and human ingenuity and compassion in full force. Liberty, freedom and individual sense of responsibility for others.
It matters. Give.
