Instead of politics today, let me urge those who are able to donate to Hurricane Helene relief.
I generally recommend the Salvation Army because, unlike the Red Cross, virtually every penny goes to relief.
Please avoid griping in the comments complaining about the Salvation Army. Right now, they are on the ground cutting down trees, feeding families, providing shelters, and doing what must be done. Every penny you give them goes to help.
There are towns with homes washed away. There are neighborhoods that will not have power for hot meals for weeks. The destruction from the hurricane was intense.
If you can, give. If you prefer a different charity, give there. But please consider helping your neighbors.
I also recommend Samaritan’s Purse, run by Franklin Graham. Excellent organization.
Samaritan's Purse, based in Boone NC, is mobilizing relief teams to send both into NC counties, and down to Florida. Our church has two teams already enroute. Even getting to Boone is a problem, with road washouts and power-less gas stations. Samaritan's Purse serves disaster victims with food, construction materials and labor, and the comforting love of Jesus. You can contribute here, and always physically volunteer if you're able and willing: https://www.samaritanspurse.org/
