Why won’t the old people let us move on from them?
Joe Biden is 80.
Nancy Pelosi is 82.
Donald Trump is 76.
Chuck Schumer is the young one at 71.
Why can’t we move on to the future? Why must we continue putting our future in the hands of the generation that bankrupted this country?
Can we not move on?
In 2018, Democrats wiped out the House GOP.
In 2020, they took the presidency.
In 2021, they took the Senate.
In 2022, they beat back a red wave.
The only thing they have in common is Ronna McDaniel and Donald Trump in charge of the GOP.
In 2022, the GOP did well unless Trump was associated with the candidate.
It is time to read the room. It is time to move on.
Let a younger generation take over, please.
I actually agree with much of what Donald Trump said last night. But the voters of America signaled a week ago that they wanted a fresh start. The GOP should listen to them and find a future-forward face, not the face of a past the voters want to move on from.
Trump, last night, had the right message. He’s just the wrong messenger.
Erick - I’m your age, listen to your program in podcast form probably 4 days out of 5, and I agree with you at least 90% of the time. I’m no fan of Biden nor Pelosi nor Schumer. Who I plan to support in 2024 is known to me and but otherwise is not open to public scrutiny. This is my first post and hopefully my last, and I’m writing solely based on the response I and those close to me had to this post.
My concern about today’s missive is that it indicates an entire generation should be excluded from service on the basis of an arbitrary age. That is an “us and them” mentality that undermines the building of a winning conservative consensus and coalition. Let’s focus on individual candidates, their knowledge, beliefs, experience, and demonstrated performance. 30-somethings like AOC and 50-somethings like Kamala Harris are hardly qualified for office and leadership simply based on the generation they belong to - simarly, a “boomer” or even boomer+ with great ideas and demonstrated history of performance should not be excluded from consideration and service. To your points yesterday, current leaders of any age (e.g. Ronna) should have the self-awareness to stand down when they don’t measure up, and be held accountable if they don’t. Those who succeed - again of any age - have an obligation to prepare the generation that will succeed them.
Let us not fall into the trap of blaming an entire group of people for our problems. Let’s hold individuals accountable for their shortcomings, whatever the reason.
When I think about going through another presidential election, 3 words come to mind:
COME LORD JESUS
