I’m writing this a week before the election because Republicans tend to vilify and then forget their gubernatorial nominees in Virginia the moment they lose.
I recently returned from a 4 day trip to Charlottesville, VA where I was meeting with several people who hold degrees in the various environmental sciences. These degrees are usually held by left-leaning individuals who decided their course of study in order to help "save the planet." Well, one of these professional environmental engineers admitted to me privately Youngkin has her vote because she wants to be able to keep her children in public schools. This campaign is the only out of state political campaign for a state office I've ever donated to. Please Glenn Youngkin WIN!
A couple of other things to remember about the 2013 VA race. First, the Obama administration essentially leaked news that they were planning to indict the sitting Republican Governor, Bob McDonnell for corruption before the election. Second, the government shutdown led by Senator Ted Cruz less than a month prior to the election did not play well in the heavily federal government dependent suburbs in Northern Virginia. Even with that, McAuliffe barely squeaked by to win against Cuccinelli. There is really no enthusiasm at all for McAuliffe. He still is slightly favored to win but if too many Ds sit this one out, Youngkin will be the next governor.
With my deepest regrets... Virginians will foist McAuliffe onto the state with a big margin. Americans/Virginians don't want Freedom or Liberty, they want unconscious bias and inclusion. God help us.
In 2020, Dems and (more importantly) Independents wpuld vote for "Anybody but Trump."
If the Repubs want to win back the White House in 2024, I hope the nominee is Anybody But Trump.
My favorite at the moment would be Desantis. He embraces the same conservative policies as Trump without alienating HUUUUUUUGE parts of the electorate.
If Repubs cant win in 2024... they only have themselves to blame if they nominate Trump.
Regarding Republican hopeful Glenn Youngkin; I believe when Obama came to rally for McAuliffe; Younkin should remind the voters that when Obama won his first term he said - we will now fundamentally transform America and now in 2021, the Democrats are doing just that. He should make this a rallying point.
I get you point, but it is the opposite side of the Trump coin. I don’t like any effort to look back at past political figures. I think it is more effective to talk about he facts of today and the promise of tomorrow than the recriminations of the past.
