When Trump asked Democrats to stand if they agreed that “the first duty of the American government is to protect American citizens, not illegal aliens,” it was a little like asking someone to stand if he is glad he stopped beating his wife. If one never beat his wife to begin with, to stand would be acknowledging the false premise (that he used to beat his wife) that is imbedded in the question. Here, the false premise is that protecting American citizens precludes also protecting illegal aliens from wrongful treatment.

I also think it a bit of a reach to conclude, from their failure to applaud the U.S. hockey team, that the American press hates America. I mean, maybe they just don't like hockey ;-o

We agree, your take is quite a stretch.

it seems to me, that "just maybe Trump last night have " change the trajectory of the 2026 Midterm elections. only time will tale.

Very good take. It would be nice to live in an America again where we ALL can celebrate the achievements of our nation and its people without partisan rancor and contempt. Democrats and especially progressives, their base, have contempt for an America they can't control, because they're a criminal enterprise that's only interested in corruptly taking advantage of (see: Somali and related scams in MN and elsewhere) for political power and personal enrichment.

You just can't hate the media enough.... And Democrats just can't hate American Citizens enough..

I'm glad the Dems decided not to boycott the SOTU (I was not aware of that decision), but happy they did because, as the saying goes, they "showed their ass" last night and it was exposed for Americans to see regardless of party affiliation. If I were a Dem, I think it would have been a wake up call. The Dem leaders hate Trump, but the behavior last evening cemented their disdain for USA and disregard for their own constituents. Bad, bad, yet a very "telling" look. A mortifying display, but I'm glad they pulled the mask off for all to witness.

Erick, you’re a smart guy. Why use the dumbest MAGA line out there (among many) - “The Democrats hate America?” I know you’ve been tough on Trump lately and need to throw red meat to his fans when you can, but that line is just immature and foolish. Republicans love America and Democrats love America too, they just hate Trump and his Administration. Correction - the vast majority of Democrats love America. I’m not sure about Omar, Tlaib and the rest of the far left.

the Democrats in Congress allowed themselves, as the saying goes " walked into the political trap that Trump lay out for them, and able to change / rewrite the narrative of the 2026 mid-term elections where they put themselves on the political defense and the record.

Jeff, I think you’re right. But it seems like the Democratic Party has split into two parties, the old school and the progressive. The progressives (socialists) hate America.

Jason Klemm's avatar

the Democrat party has been split into 2 parts for several decades since the 1960's. It has been in public view since Obama allowed them to come out during his two terms in office as president.

I can't despise the press corp, overall mainstream media or Democrats enough.

Follow-up to earlier comment. You know who taught Democrats and Independents to hate America? Barack Obama, the worst person to ever be President of the United States. I have family who live in Chicago, knew his true beliefs and said the country would be in trouble if he was elected.

I was entertained - Trump is a pro at it. I also enjoyed watching him put the Dems in the corner. Who doesn’t clap for Americans? The Democrats. Why are they so angry? You’re right most will be forgotten, but the hockey team, heroes being honored and awarded Medals of Honor, Freedom, Valor, a Purple Heart and honoring victims of Democrat decisions. I did think it was funny as they all clapped about ending insider investing when about all of them do it…

Is Trump perfect? Not at all. However, he does some good, and I appreciate his love of America and its citizens. It does come across as genuine. Get ready for a roller coaster ride in 2026.

This is a Democrat party in shambles! Where are the adults?

Other than Fetterman not around.

It still pains me to admit I actually like him.

Yes, the current Democrat party hates America because of one man. A sad display of their dishonor that will go over the heads of about 40% of the Democrats and “Independents” in this country. They have been trained like good Pavlov dogs to hate America at the ring of the bell.

One just can't think badly enough about these democrats. Of course we have our kooks, but show me one sane democrat. Probably a county commissioner or sheriff somewhere, but certainly not in Washington.

The TV campaign ads are already being written and/or produced (if they're not already in the can)

Visual/Audio DJT

"Stand if you think the responsibility of elected officials is to protect the rights of American citizens rather than illegal aliens' (Or whatever he actually said.)

Visual:

Dems sitting silently.

Visual/Audio DJT:

'How do you not stand for that?'

Visual/Audio:

Dems sitting silently.

'How can you vote for someone who won't stand for Americans?

'I'm (name of GOP candidate) and I approve this message. And I'll always stand for my fellow Americans.

Boom.

Add the scowling faces of Omar and Talib mouthing "kkk" in between cuts.

This was disgraceful. I am very afraid that there will be much more of this America hatred as the young people who've been indoctrinated by our educational system take control of the country. It is a cancer that has been infesting our schools for many decades.....it's just been hidden until now. I pray all the moderate Democrats wake up, step up and speak up and take control of their party back. This country NEEDS two strong, America-loving parties for the health of our republic.

Erick, you may be right about the optics of Democrats not applauding for lines they should applaud. But as Bill Maher pointed out last week (see https://youtu.be/3KuNI0V3JkM?si=aQdkeNG4hBocw7Io, around 7:15), this is a bipartisan practice. The example he provided: Republicans sitting on their hands when President Biden, in 2023, condemned political violence..

To the people saying Erick is a Trump loving MAGA boy, get some reality pills and take more than the recommended dose. I've read a lot of articles by Erick that condemn a good number of things that Trump does and says.

The look on the faces of the press was one of disdain for many, ambivalence in others and a sort of snide ridicule for the rest. Whether one likes sports, the Olympics, etc, is irrelevant in this case. Any citizen could feel proud of the hockey team and could honor those who were recognized and awarded the various medals and awards for the heroism, courage, loss, strength and valor. These characteristics are some of what this country was founded on after all.

The apathy of the press and the lack of support for the American people by the Democrats was revolting.

Did Trump leave some things out, sure he did, did he gloss over others, yes he did. But if one can't at least show pride in the country and it's people that were honored last night, then the criticism is well deserved.
