You nailed it, Erick. Griner's fanboys and fangirls seem to assume that we'll move heaven and earth to get her released. We shouldn't, especially if it means cutting loose a true monster of a man in Viktor Bout. Rule #1 for overseas travel, from someone who did it 4 times in 20 years' military service: Other nations are generally nowhere near as gentle in their law enforcement than is the U.S., and punishments are usually much more severe, and the prisons much worse, than their American counterparts. Maybe this will wake some people up, but probably not, as most Americans think everywhere else is Just Like Here.

I’m sorry. I guess I am just mean but I don’t care.

I suspect that the sentence had a lot to do with increasing her value as an asset for the upcoming trade. I also am willing to believe that she might not have realized just how harshly other countries treat law breakers. If anything this is a lesson in how great the US actually is. I mean, CBD oil is readily available here. Stores are everywhere you look in the metro Atlanta area. But if one goes to a communist, totalitarian state then you'd best be aware of what you're getting into.

I remember some time back that Celtic Robert Parrish admitted that he smoked pot to help bring him down after games, as well as deal with pain. NBA games go well into the night so drinking alcohol to come down from the high of the game was not a good option as it would affect your next day's performance. But pot did a good job of managing this issue.

On a side note, I cancelled my Sports Illustrated print subscription of 40 years last year because the magazine had gone so woke that it was unreadable. The final straw was when I received an issue with a cover story scolding me for why I was wrong if I didn't like the WNBA. My bathroom reading is now Garden and Gun.

Her supporters here that had all the “protests”, the media and WH complaints that she was “unjustly detained” probably had as much to do with the length of her sentence as anything else. A Russian judge who “went easy” on her would be assumed to be intimidated by the Americans, and that would be a career ending move in Russia right now.

And it is unreasonable to put us and many other countries at risk by “trading” the “Merchant of Death” for her return. Reap what you sow.
