What is the republican platform? McConnell stated that his job was to obstruct the democrats even if it hurts his own constituents. Republicans that voted against the infrastructure bill have gone back to their districts touting benefits that are coming about as a result of the bill that they voted against. Republicans are not for middle class and poor white people, they just want their votes. Using culture wars to get their votes. They work for the business elite and rich. Trump doesn't care about poor people. Now if you guys in these comments are all rich, business people, then I understand you supporting Republicans. Makes total sense, but outside of that you're voting against your own interests. They really don't care about you. Just like dems and minorities. They don't really care either. People getting riled up about politicians that could not care less about you. Both parties would rather their people suffer than to agree with something proposed by the other side. EVEN IF IT HELPS BOTH SIDES. Its ridiculous. Erick should use his voice more to bring folks together Like Jesus. Instead of fanning partisan fires....
"First, forgive Biden for his flubs and twisted words."
First, this is the POTUS - big responsibility to get the message right, including read the text in front of him (Ukrainians are not Iranians!).
Second, SOTU is a monologue, not a dialog - he controlled the message...and mis-spoke/flubbed like we've not seen from a POTUS in my lifetime. His message missed opportunities to unite, went down the death-spiral of "accomplishments" we all know to be failures.
There was a reason Biden campaigned from his basement - DNC didn't want to give the voters a chance to examine the man running, just kept MSM, Dems and a few never-Trump RINO's beating the anti-Trump drum. As Harris accidently stated recently, "...you get what you voted for...". Voting decisions made in an echo chamber without considering unintended ramifications yield our current POTUS.
Yes, Erick, he is an 80-year old man, and I pray for him daily. My father is 87 years old, has better cognitive ability than our POTUS and also knows better than to think he should run the country with his aging frailties. What made Biden think he has the capability to shoulder the worries of our country (and the world as a super-power)?
Why would Jill take her husband there? She, of all people, knows he is incapable. We've seen her step in to "rescue" him in public appearances.
DNC could do no better than Biden against Trump? Apparently so. Goes to show how important the Electoral College really is when pitting populous echo-chamber states against the remainder of the country.
Whether or not you 'like' Trump or not is hardly relevant. In the end voting is a binary choice. I don't like much about him but could not, would not, will not vote for Hillary Clinton. Voting matters and NO one is trying to stop any LEGAL vote. That canard needs killing.
The "science" hasn't changed. Democrat polling has. Respond as is your right.
Exactly. Plenty, probably most Trump voters voted against Hillary and Biden. Not ‘hopelessly devoted’ to Trump, but if he’s the Republican nominee, I’ll vote for him again…prayerfully hoping for a wiser Trump with a reign on his mouth. Here’s hoping.
Very compassionate on Biden the man. This is deeply appreciated. Yet you were able to separate policy from person in this instance. In some cases--like Trump--this was much more difficult. One expends more energy trying to balance than one does while falling to one direction or another.
I tried to watch the State of Union last night, but Biden's stumbling, bumbling ramble (it's just an observation / no forgiveness warranted), combined with the backdrop of Harris and Pelosi, plus the insane social distancing within the House chamber, was just too much to bear. It made me sad, almost embarrassed, to be an American. How do we fight back when the Dems have the media, big tech, corporations, so-called fact checkers, AND the entrenched apparatus of the Deep State, including operatives within the FBI and CIA, on their side. How?
Dear Erick - It would be extremely helpful to know which Republican Presidents you supported in the past, i.e., voted for, including in the 2016 primary. I reached voting age in time for Reagan's second term and have pulled the GOP lever ever since, with a few exceptions when I voted Independent. I supported the Bush family unfortunately. Not a mistake per se given the alternative at the time, but they are hardly conservative. Was extremely disappointed in the GOP when McCain-Palin hit the ticket back in 2008 or whenever that was. Ditto for Romney-Ryan. Weak, as was the GOP. Anyway, sometimes I can't tell if you support the establishment, i.e, RINOs, or if you are truly conservative. With that, who exactly do you support in 2024. Obviously it's not Trump, which is fine. I get it. Trump, whether his hard core supporters want to admit it or not, is polarizing and divisive. I still submit that he was the right person at the right time. If you disagree, tell me then who else among the GOP candidates at the time could have taken on and defeated Hillary Clinton, a woman who apparently would stop at nothing short of murder to gain the Presidency.
I am not sure Hillary would stop short of murder....while I know it is conspiracy "stuff, Vince Foster, Seth Rich, and Jeffrey Epstein may beg to differ.................
I am totally onboard with you! But putting that aside for lack of real evidence, we KNOW and can VERIFY that she had a private email server which she used on multiple occasions to send TOP SECRET INFORMATION! She should be in jail as we type, but she istn't. And of course, we haven't even touched on Whitewater, Uranium One, and Benghazi.
I'm not Erich, but I DID sleep in a Holiday Inn last night ;) IMO, Trump didn't defeat Hillary, Hillary defeated Hillary. Of all the candidates - and there were several very good options - Trump was the least qualified (based upon traditional lines of ascendancy) and certainly the most cartoonish. He should have been easy for a good opponent to dismantle. But Hillary's "glowing" personality and her colossal arrogance gave Trump an open door.
I’ve stated this before but my perfect president…40% Reagan -joy and communicator, 40% Gingrich -historical knowledge/general brilliance, and 20% Trump - shear hutzpah. Percentages easily adjusted.
Erick, I know that this is petty to most....but I have been listening to Biden for years. I do not recall him stuttering to any noticeable extent in the past. I have mentioned before about his debate with Paul Ryan. He was sharp, concise, clear. If he had a problem when he was a child he overcame it a very long time ago. I believe that his inability to articulate properly and mix words (Uranians?) is a national security concern. It makes him (and the US) weak...and not in control. It deserves criticism.
This should be viewed in light of the many prevarications that Biden has made over the years including his class ranking in college and law school, the circumstances surrounding his first wife's fatal traffic accident, fabrications of his biography, and many other instances where his statements have been fanciful at best. (and it's always especially rich to see people so concerned about Trump's 'lies' and 'tone' completely ignore Biden's.)
I quit watching State of the Unions during the Obama years. Maybe watched a few minutes of Trump's first one. That's about it. When the fact checkers have become so aligned with one side, it just make it's difficult to keep up with all of the lies.
Will be interesting to see what the ratings were - I'm guessing pretty darn low.

How Biden and Democrats feel about the speech... we know best, the stupid people need to just get on board, or as Obama said, get on the bus but sit in the back.
Biden offered Americans a vision of what they’ve already rejected, called on Congress to pass an agenda Congress has repeatedly failed to pass, and bookended it with calls for unity after firing Americans for not taking a vaccine.
Can someone tell me what's wrong with Paxton? Genuinely asking, I haven't paid much attention to his track record. But I'm registered to vote in Texas so I'd like to get some more information for voting in the runoff.
Thank you for taking the hit for me and watching the entire speech. I watched a few minutes and heard nothing new and certainly nothing that actually would provide a positive outcome for the country. I decided not to listen to the same failing talking points we have been hearing for more than a year.
I look forward to hearing your commentary later today.

Can you convince Chip Roy to run for president? Oh dang, you said he was principled. Yep, that ends THAT dream.

Listening to Biden after his Ukraine comments, I kept hearing Charlie Brown's teacher.

Thanks for the summary Erick--and, as I expected, there was no real pivot. The Far Left own the Dem Party now. They can not afford a divorce.

How indeed. My ongoing mental journey to understand how people fall for progressive blather.

We must be related! Same sentiments as myself.

Biden is a means to an end for the left. He gets to ‘be’ president, and a small committee run the country.
OMG, I couldn't agree more!! The hypocrisy drives me up a frickin' wall!!
