Erick - a quibble with the math. 880K per year, but most of us are adults that have lived a while. So, lets say then that over the last 30 years there have been 26.4M abortions in the US which would put it at 8% of Americans. Lets round down to 5% (a guess) for those that have had multiple abortions, that is still a pretty decent chunk of Americans. You could argue even higher as the 330M pop number includes kids.
As I write this, a mob of close to one thousand people has descended on Philadelphia's City Hall, forcing police to block traffic in that area. I recall the time Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin came to Philly to eat at a restaurant, and the mob who descended upon her vehicle would literally have torn her apart, were it not for some assiduous police protection.
We are in a culture WAR already. I agree with Governor DeSantis that this leak is nothing less than an attempt to intimidate pro-life SCOTUS justices, particularly Cavanaugh. To fight a war requires good strategy. Wars make casualties of truth and increase what Hannah Arendt called "the banality of evil." Erick writes of "only 880,000 abortions." Isn't that a bit like the guard at the concentration camp saying, "We only exterminated five Jews today," and his partner replying, "Don't worry; a new trainload arrives tomorrow." There is evil in the world, and there will be wars and abortions until the end of time, but hopefully Christians at least will not become callous to the evil of abortion. May God help us to be, in the words of Christ, "wise as serpents and harmless as doves."
Implicit in your statement is that Erick is not pro life. But his position is prolife. He was pointing out the obvious that abortion has been trending down because of the roadblocks states have put in place.
OK. I am an emotional person, and the seeing the screaming mob outside City Hall in Philly as I drove home was a bummer - like watching the movie "The Silence." I meant no harm.
FOX NEWS POLL:Americans weigh in on whether Supreme Court should overturn Roe v. Wade
Who the F cares?
The hay being made over this on the left could feed every cow and horse in the US.
As you say and have said, nothing really changes. Texas was successful in virtually banning abortions with Row v. Wade in place, California will continue to allow abortion on demand up to and including when the baby is in the birth canal.
If the people care one way or the other they can take it up with their state legislature, where they have far more influence than the US House and Senate.
Oh, and at least now they will actually have a say because, SHOCK it's not a constitutional right, but can none the less be legal, or not.
Chief Roberts voted to make the Obamacare ruling not be his legacy. Well Johnny, Betrayal is now YOUR LEGACY. Good. It’s payback for all those anti-American votes you sided with the marxist jurists.
The two things I don't hear mentioned are "use birth control" and be select on whom you go to bed with. I don't hear Planned Parenthood urging women to use birth control; instead, I guess there is more money in abortion then in preventing pregnancy.
We have a patchwork of laws regarding abortion already, from state to state. Democrats are actually screaming with joy at the prospect of using "Republicans want to control women's bodies" as a campaign slogan. I have a liberal friend who insists that the "leak" was from a right winger who wanted to be sure the justices wouldn't change their decision, because it would seem they were bowing to political pressure. Personally, I think the "leak" coming right before the primaries is suspiciously like something a far left abortion activist would do to engage their base, but...what do I know.
Each state having its own laws was how things were supposed to work. There should only be federal law for commerce between states. Basic rights shouldn’t even be a federal issue. For example, I don’t see where NY has to honor another states concealed carry permit. Why should this be any different? Heck, abortion is not an enumerated right and bearing arms is.
As Erick pointed out, the demographics that see abortion as important already vote Democrat. Those that don’t won’t be swayed by far leftists screaming the world is ending. I think that will drive the issue away from them because they seem almost maniacal in their love for this issue.
The unhinged mania over abortion has probably swelled the ranks of the pro-life movement more than anything else could have. I know many people who were "pro-choice" who have recoiled from the extreme "pro-abortion" sentiments of the left.
They had reluctantly accepted abortion in the first trimester as a "necessary evil", acknowledging that we are not a theocracy, that some women might have what they believed to be valid reasons for terminating a pregnancy, and whether they liked it or not, they were willing to accept it as the law.
Then Casey extended Roe to "undue burden", and they still stayed in the pro-choice camp as abortion was allowed in the second trimester.
But "partial birth" abortion, the abortion rights activists referring to unborn children as "parasites", celebrating abortion as a happy event, refusing to even acknowledge that they were humans and allowing abortion up to the moment of birth was a bridge too far...they could no longer deny that what they were doing was killing a baby.
They have only themselves to blame for that. "Safe, legal and RARE" was a standard most people were willing to accept.
Yes-and our laws, our legal system, has prevailed for now. But our legal system is eroding on so many fronts. The edges are more dog-eared than crisp, and the leak is disturbing. I suspect, as will others, many scenarios. An investigation is appropriate, almost essential. I pray it did not involved a Justice, though in times like these, noble behavior cannot be expected.

Exercising those two options would be individual responsibility. Democrats can’t have that because then people might make better choices….

Really Erick?
‘Really’ what?
Too few can see the bigger picture. Application is a lost art. You do it. Unfortunately, you're also hated for it.....
