"Maybe it’s just me, but I’m not sure it was wise of Trump to impose tariffs."
My employees and others outside of the business I oversee are not sure that layoffs are wise. So I listened to them and the business failed and everybody lost their jobs and others had nowhere to shop.
There are significant structural problems with the US economy that include massive corporate consolidation and massive wealth transfer from the bottom 80% to the top. We are nearing $40 trillion in debt. We have a near $1 trillion per year trade deficit. We have millions of homeless. We have crumbling infrastructure. We have double digit real unemployment in most areas of the country. We saw during the pandemic how frighteningly reliant we were in critical supplies from other countries.
The problem today is that there are no rules for corporations turning domestic jobs into commodities and exporting them to the cheaper countries. All the large corporations can leverage that... small business that compete is stuck needing labor in the US.
We are already seeing the results of the threat of tariffs with Apple and a bunch of other companies committing to investing hundreds of billions back into the US to manufacture here.
Yes, it will have short term impacts on inflation.... but we already have massive inflation without tariffs. Now is the advantageous time to implement tariffs as the corporatists went too far. And maybe that results in idiot voters being gaslighted by the media to vote for the terrible Democrats to take back the legislature. But hopefully Trump gets it done in the first two years and then vetos the hell out of everything. By the end of four years, the economy will have equalized and Vance can take over.
Here’s my forecast on tariffs. When Trump believes they have achieved their purpose which primarily is to bring jobs back to America then he will begin to lower and eliminate some of them. Most likely by the end of this year. Add this to bringing Russia back into the world economy with their oil and a cut in government spending and regulations prices will go down.
After an increase of prices for most of this year, the drop in prices next year overall will set the midterm elections up well for Republicans. People will forget the rise this year.
The Trump administration owns this even though I suspect the root cause is 10 million mostly unvaccinated illegal aliens having come across the border in the last 4 years.
Now, I certainly do not what to come off like a racist or bigot, so if various outbreaks of previously rare diseases, like chagas, over the last 4 years is not linked to illegal immigrants please tell me.
In Econ 101, the example of oranges from Florida traded for wheat from Nebraska was always used. Maybe it still is. Sure, you can grow greenhouse oranges in Nebraska, but why? As far as I know, the only U. S. state that grows coffee is Hawaii, and the stupid Jones Act makes it expensive, so we import it. Trade is good.
Well, this entire HHS situation has me really worried. Kennedy's tepid response last week to the measles outbreak, suddenly shifted yesterday to support for the MMR vaccine. He's going to have a mess on his hands if he waits any longer to get in front of this outbreak. Yes, millions of unvaccinated illegals pouring into this country doesn't help. But the vaccine skeptics, of whom Kennedy is one, are now faced with an immediate challenge. Speaking as a survivor of measles, having become extremely ill as a child before a vaccine was available, I know this disease is totally preventable. It's a simple fix. I fear this is just the beginning but I pray for a strong, logical response. Prayers for the child who died, may there be no others.
I don't see how his response is tepid. The numbers of cases is pretty low, the people are being treated successfully, vaccines have been provided for those who want them. What else should be done. I and all my siblings had not one, but two types of measles, were treated at home and had no aftereffects, as did most of the kids we went to school with.
There was a show on Fox Business a few years ago - can’t remember the name but it had Kennedy (the former MTV VJ) and a couple other more Libertarian oriented personalities on the show. They were interviewing Bill Nye and in the next segment interviewing a guy who was on the opposite side of the climate BS. They asked Nye if he wanted to stay on for the next segment to debate the next guest. Nye basically said “when you have a cancer, you don’t debate it, you try to cure it.” If you are so sure of your perspective you should be able to debate some lowly “climate denier.”
I don’t understand the tariff thing. If the US puts tariffs on imports they (the other country) passes the cost on to us the consumer that buys their products, correct?
So the other countries do the same thing on the products we export. So who wins, I don’t believe it’s the consumer. Am I wrong on this?
There is one thing that could be done pretty quickly to help with the egg prices. STOP KILLING THE EGG LAYING CHICKENS. Bird flu has always been around. The only difference is no one went out and tested a few chickens then ordered them all killed. Still not sure why we are having a total attack of hysteria over some measles cases. Yes, I know they can be serious for some people. The numbers are quite small, the majority are being successfully treated, Kennedy outlined what they are doing to aid the areas where the outbreak is in Texas, he has sent vaccines to the area, but, rightfully, says it is a personal choice to take them or not. If our republicans cannot pass a proper budget in a timely manner to include cuts and making the tax cuts permanent, then nothing Trump does is anything but a temporary show.

https://gellerreport.com/.../traitor-chris-murphy-says...am Geller posts that Sen Chris Murphy (D-CT) met with Zelenskey before Zelenskey's WH meeting with DT. Scum of the earth. https://gellerreport.com/.../traitor-chris-murphy-says...

Have plenty of popcorn and adult beverages for the Trump speech. The Democratic Clown Show will be entertaining.
I wonder if Democratic Senators realize that girls and women will look 👀 at
Them as perverts.
So, RFK is Trump's, Pete Buttigieg.

Most likely the outbreak is from illegals. But RFK is handling it just fine.
Leprosy outbreak in NW Arkansas 10 or 15 years ago... illegals.

I saw this on X. “How did the human race survive before vaccines?” Answer: “Have 8-10 kids so that 4-5 will grow up.”
Yep, happened all the time over the generations. Which is why modern medicine is such a marvel.

There are a lot of tariffs going on to the detriment of US exporting to almost anywhere. I believe the point is to make trade a bit more fair.
Hey Erick…. It’s not just three of them reading from the same script, it’s FIVE..

They sound like a bunch of parrots in a jungle. Cacaphony.
The jabbering fools of the Peanut Gallery..
Tariffs (except the PRC) are going to be a big own goal for Trump.
If Zelensky realizes he screwed up, why is he not back in Washington at this very moment?
"....to express our outrage..."
Outraged at what?
That waste and corruption have been exposed on a massive scale?
Or, could it be that some of those outraged have been shown to have benefited financially from the corruption?
