Soon to be Forgotten

The State of the Union was more raucous last night than most. The base of each party loved it. The commentators on CNN spent a good bit of time on Biden giving as good as he got from Marjorie Taylor Green. We get the government we deserve.

It was refreshing to see bipartisan support for some police reform — what that will entail is a big question.

But the reality is these things get forgotten in days. All the roundtable discussions, media previews, post-game analyses cannot keep us from moving on in a few days.

The speech was a kick-off for Biden to claim he is defending the FDR social welfare state. It is fitting for a man his age to campaign in 2024 on the past like that. It won’t matter. Most American think the government is the problem these days, not their savior.

The speech was not memorable and will be forgotten.
