It can go without saying that one of the chief tenets of politics is never forgetting the amount of political capital you retain among the circles of people you wish to influence.
Why waste time and effort? The Dems (and their media) will criticize whomever Trump nominates. If his picks do not work out, Trump will fire them. It's that simple. Let Trump have his picks.
So early in the game, why blow the points on a single candidate. Move on. There are more important fights ahead which we need and will take quite a bit of political capital. Gutting some of the overlapping departments is a bigger priority. Gutting government bureaucracy needs to be job 1.
Ok here’s the thing. Putting Matt aside, he wasn’t a good pick.
Why does you think that?
Because of what the media says? Because of some reports made or “alleged” 7 years ago.
In Pete’s case he probably was drunk. Got in bed with the wrong lady who had regrets. It was investigated, and allegations were rendered false. No charges.
And did you know they are going after his other nominees?
It’s like “did you know so and so nominee farted in the bathroom when they were 12. SCANDAL, news at 7…”
I mean really this is getting old.
Again Matt notwithstanding. Let’s be honest. They could put up Jesus Christ as AG and they would find a scandal.
Nobody’s perfect. Nobody will be perfect. Pete is a pick worth fighting for.
The media has been exposed as false. So why are we now believing them?
I’ve watched a lot of Fox News and I always liked Pete. But he’s lead a platoon, that is all. He is unqualified for this post. I respect his service, but not his judgment. He couldn’t even get through a speaking gig at a Republican women’s conference without a police report. He cheated in two marriages, having a daughter with another woman while married to his second wife. In the political realm, he headed a political action committee then got booted for wasting donor money on personal expenses and for giving his completely unqualified brother a 100k job to do nothing. This does not show good character. And character is destiny.
From over here, it looks like the swamp creatures have rallied and are going on the attack on every one of the picks that they think they cannot control. While I am delighted to see Gaetz out of the picture, the others are fine candidates. But we have the usual republicans casting doubt, Haley turning into a Cheney and crying "Russian asset", the new Utah senator picking up the Romney mantle and being the obstructionist. Probably, as usual, republicans will blow up any chance of seriously needed government reforms.
The problem is many of these republicans like to jump at their own shadow when the media raises alarms even when false.
They are already vilifying Pete and it’s only been a week. If they actually read the report they would be able to see it was proven to be false. No charges were ever filed.
I read the police report. It looks like a married woman met Pete at a Republican meeting of some sort. They both got a little bit tipsy and ended up in the hotel room together and tried to have sex. According to the report she was not penetrated. About four days later she took a rape test. Several days following this she filed a police report. Nothing came of this. This seems like a case of a married woman getting a bit carried away, feeling guilty because of her marital status and then fabricating some facts to cover her actions in case hubby found out. I’d hardly call this a sexual assault. But, then again, I’ve been faithfully married for almost 40 years so what the hell do I know?
Why does Trump have to be careful? Every nominee he puts up is going to be vilified and accused.
I know you say well there’s plenty of candidates, but what’s the line? Where does it get drawn? The Dems are going after everyone anyway. This is what happened in the first term now it’s happening again and I’m sorry I’m frustrated that it’s always us that has to conform and be perfect. I’m sorry, but hegseth needs to stay as the nominee. He’s a great American and whoever he finds to replace Matt will be just as good but also just as criticized so what’s the point?
I heard you sing the praises of the future secretary of defense now it’s a completely different tune so how’s the next one gonna be and the next one and the next one come on I’m done.
And not just the Dem haters are going after them---those with TDS on the right such as Murkowski and Collins in the senate, and "all hat and no cattle" Trey Gowdy and his buddy "little whiteboard" Karl Rove have been frothing at mouth especially over Gaetz. They will now expend all that fury on Hegseth and the others.
Nothing is more important than assurance that our military is strong enough - clearly so to observers - that any Chinese adventurism will be too expensive for them. I don’t know if Hegseth is the guy. Maybe he is.

Why must we deal with this jackassery!?!? Just make smart appointments! So many qualified options on the conservative side.

Yeah and the current SOD is married with children with none of that but as you can see he is useless.
Trump is a 4 time married alpha male who has done many questionable things.
I don’t care. Just do the job and stop the woke.
Be smarter
Plenty of better options.

MSNBC is already having a cow over Trump's new AG pick...this ought to be fun!

If not, at least competence should. This putz couldn’t even manage a Republican conference without trouble.
Get Charmin if you want purity. Stop being a bunch of pussies
That’s Ivory soap … dumb dumb
Does character matter at all to you?
Bit of a rant.

Pete was a victim of grifters..and his own apparent exhuberance. He's worth the fight.
