My goodness. Last week, we had to suffer through the January 6th hysteria on television. Well, that may look mild compared to what is probably coming.
This week, the President and Vice President are headed to Georgia. They’re going to go campaign with Senator Warnock, who is up for re-election. He has proven himself to be one of the more progressive members of the Senate. At a time people in Georgia are concerned with crime and inflation, he is fixated on voting reforms.
It is understandable Sen. Warnock is fixated on that. He had been the senior pastor at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Martin Luther King, Jr.’s church. Warnock has always been an activist. The issue of voting and participation in elections is his thing. He is, however, out of step with even black voters on securing the vote, voter integrity, and photo ID. He’s on the far left side of the issue.
Biden and Harris intend to join Warnock in Georgia to attack the Republicans for beefing up voting integrity. They have the American media in sync pushing the voter suppression mythology of the left. There’s just one problem.
Over the weekend, Senators Manchin and Sinema made it very clear they will not gut the filibuster. Multiple press reports note Sen. Sinema is even more adamant about the filibuster and is refusing any sort of reform. Sen. Manchin seemed amendable to a compromise that would not gut the filibuster, but make it easier to get legislation to the floor in order for it to be filibustered. That would allow the Democrats more grandstanding room. But that’s out the door too.
So last week, in a coordinated effort with the American press corps, the President, Vice President, and Democratic Party made the case that democracy is under attack; the GOP cannot be trusted with power; and the GOP has engaged in efforts to undermine the republic including passing draconian laws to make it more difficult to vote. Regardless of your views, it is objectively not true that the laws make it more difficult to vote. That’s a talking point without validity.
With the President and Vice President headed to Georgia this week, progressive activists are furious. They are openly attacking their own team, demanding the trip to Georgia be canceled because the fight is in Washington, not Georgia.
This is going to get ugly.
The Democrats have internalized that democracy is under attack and only they can save it. The means to save it is passing H.R. 1, the For the People Act, and/or the more measured John Lewis Voting Rights Act. Both are dead in the Senate and will not be revived because the filibuster cannot be killed.
The last time activists of a party decided democracy was under attack, the game was rigged, and a coup was afoot, they stormed the United States Capitol to stop Electoral College votes from being counted they thought were tainted. They thought they were on the side of democracy and the republic.
Now, Democrats are in the same position and have the media on their side. Stand by for riots.
We've been to this movie before. Remember the riots that followed Trump's original election back in 2016. Probably not. Why? Because the media buried the footage, but I recall vividly vehicles on fire in DC as Antifa-looking rioters pushed against riot police, etc. How many police were injured that day and in the riots that continued seemingly throughout Trump's Presidency? How many businesses and lives were destroyed by those riots? How much property damage was done? How many government buildings were destroyed? It doesn't matter because it was all done in the name of the Democrat partly fighting against some illusory, supposed authoritarian regime, so they got not only a free pass from the press, but encouragement from Dem leaders and their left-wing media enablers. Pray for the conversion of sinners and protection for those on the side of truth, peace, and justice.
I am growing increasingly concerned by everyone talking about our country losing its democracy. It was not founded as a democracy although it has been moving closer to a democracy over the decades. Our government is a representative republic rather than a democracy. The founders of our nation feared a democracy and shunned it. The Senate was established to provide equal representation of the States. Senators were selected by the governments of each State. More recently, Senators have been elected by the people of each state moving toward a more democratic Senate. There is a movement for States to cast electoral college votes according to the national vote rather than according to the State's vote. This is becoming much closer to democracy. If we become a democracy where the majority vote of the people controls our country, my State of Georgia will have no say in the direction of the Country. A democracy is a very dangerous thing for most states and a very dangerous thing for our Country. Every time I read or hear someone lamenting the loss of our democracy, I worry that a large majority of people actually believe them. We are a country in crisis because we are a people who have lost the knowledge of our founding.
