Albeit he had some telling

Classified documents, why are you not

Reporting what Biden and Pence had. Seems to me

You’re focased on what Trump had that hurt our country but nothing on the content of what Biden or Pence had. How about some even handed context Erik.

Yea this is bad if true. How many other things have we heard “reported” or “leaked” or well, taken to the FISA court…that were not true?

Given that most fund raising emails from lately Trump are titled, "My Indictment" it appears he wants to be indicted as a way of rallying supporters. The prosecutor is happy to oblige knowing that it hardens his support to insure a primary win - and alienates moderates to insure general election loss

Expand full comment

Or the prosecutor could be just doing his job, trying to lock someone up who broke the law.

Sure, if this were Joe Blow car thief. the politics here overwhelm any concern about exposing secrets. Shithead Trump only cares about himself and the primary, this serves his purpose. Probably he figures he'll come up with some other McGiver to win the general

National Archives have no ability or authority to demand anything the President takes as his personal documents as stated in the Bill Clinton "socks tapes case" many years ago. They may request, plead, argue, but can not force. Obama still has not given the National Archives documents promised in 2018.

Biden, Obama, & Bush stored in even far less secure environments. Hillary ran an illegal server, with aides regularly violating the law cutting & pasting classified documents into texts sent over unsecure emails.

You must be wrong, Donna. After the countless number of lies that Donald Trump has told over the past few years, no one could simply believe something he said (especially about born-in-Kenya Obama) as being true.

Am I right, Bill?

According to Erick's post, "President Trump kept plans for invasions of other countries, locations of American spies around the world, classified locations of soldiers, military vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies, classified assessments of nuclear capabilities of various nations." Now let me be sure I understand this. You think there is no law against him taking stuff of such a sensitive nature and letting it lie around in boxes all over Mar-a-Lago, where people he hardly even knows are coming and going almost every day?

And please spare me the whataboutism. If Clinton, Biden, Obama and Bush did the same thing, it doesn't excuse Trump. They should go to jail too.

I cannot speak about the others, but the National Archives said that Obama did not walk out with classified documents. Trump was the one who put it out there.

"[P]lans for invasions of other countries, locations of American spies around the world, classified locations of soldiers, military vulnerabilities of the United States and its allies, classified assessments of nuclear capabilities of various nations . . . ."

I wonder why Mr. Trump would want stuff like that so badly that he would try to hide it rather than just give it back.

Your last sentence is the key to the whole mess.

When Trump was running in 2015 and 2016, he was trying to get approval for hotels in Russia. Imagine Putin saying that he would let Trump do it provided he [Trump] share some information.

I do not understand the devotion Trump followers have to the man. He is corrupt to the core, a bully, and unstable in all his ways. On top of that, he is OLD. No one actually needs Trump to win (see 2020 results) and his character makes the whole GOP look foolish. Is this REALLY the best we can do?

2016: voted third party

2020: voted "none of the above"

2024: will not vote for Trump if he is the nominee. He is toxic. We can do better!

And Erick, I disagree with the ballot box argument. Defeat him in an election and get four more years of Donkey politics? No way. Put him aside NOW and let younger leaders win over the GOP in the next nine months.

It’s rather humorous watching everyone react to what is obviously an effort by the people who actually run things to have us all spin and twirl in the wind. Do you not see what is happening? Have you no sense of history? The goal of these “masters” is to have us divided and at each other’s throats, so that the chaos compels us to surrender our ability to think critically and act freely. If you think the growing division and resentment and even hatred of the other “team” can on forever, you’re wrong. It will end poorly and painfully for all.

He will never get jail time, but, if these allegations are true, it’s more than apparent he lacks the disposition, the appreciation and understanding of the constitutional importance of his office, to be president again. If the allegations are accurate. If Biden actually got bribe money from Ukraine, that would deserve jail time, but he would never serve time.

Expand full comment

I deeply detest Donald Trump and have little doubt that he did everything he is accused of in the indictment . . . and I sincerely hope he never gets jail time. It's bad enough that he was the cause for breaking our previously unbroken string of peaceful transfers of power. Either through a lenient sentence or presidential pardon, we would best avoid setting the precedent of sending any former leader of this country to jail.

That said, however, a trial on these charges is absolutely necessary. By hardly covering the congressional hearings concerning January 6th, conservative media left room for its audience to conclude that things were not really as bad as they at first seemed. Because they were all just as guilty, the lies aired by Fox News about a stolen election got little scrutiny from other conservative media outlets; thus avoiding any reckoning among conservatives over just how brazen Trump's lies were. But conservative media can't ignore his trial.

So that there can no longer be any mistake about Donald Trump, Republicans have to have their noses rubbed in the scum that he is and always has been.

Agreed. I watched all of the hearings on YouTube. The information contained within is quite damning.

Well please explain how the documents Biden had some from his Senate years could not have been on purpose. When he was not supposed to have them outside a secure area at all. I am not condoning what Trump might be guilty of. How do we know that the corrupt FBI did not plant this stuff on the raid? I would not put it pass them. But, I am not saying they did. But look at the optics of it. Trump Lawyers were not allow in during the raid. So how do you know for sure?

We know because Trump has publicly admitted to taking the stuff, claiming that he had a right to do so, and has made no claim that anything was planted.

This, my dear Frank, points to the utter beauty of these things we call juries. If twelve ordinary citizens, completely unaffiliated with the government, find Trump guilty (1) unanimously and (2) beyond a reasonable doubt, that's a pretty good indication that he did it.

If all as Erick relates it is accurate: Wow. So, a guy who was too dumb to veto any of 3 GOP-controlled omnibus bills that didn't fund his signature issue, a guy who was so dumb he hugged Jim Comey's arm and assured the Swamp titan he could keep his job as FBI director, a guy so dumb he studied nor regarded any contradictory opinions of highly respected medical researchers during a catastrophic pandemic and just handed over the entire running of it to a power-mad bureaucrat with ties to China's Wuhan Labs -- this guy illegally held on to classified documents and admitted so on tape? How can a stupid political party NOT nominate such a man for President? Stupid must beget stupid.

I try to vote my Christian heart, Frank. There's something called the 9th Commandment and it says that thou shalt not bear false witness (i.e.: lie) against thy neighbor. I no of no one that violates this Commandment as much as one Donald Trump, and, as far as I can tell, he does so unrepentantly. Whether he aims at some person who innocently gets in the way of his drive for power, or just annoys his monumental ego -- be it Jeb Bush, Ted Cruz, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Mika Brzezinski, Mad Dog Mattis (first a "great general," then a "lousy general"), Ron DeSantis or Kayleigh McEnany -- I know of no greater master of gratuitous insults, slanders, demeaning name-calling (Jesus called this a form of murder) and purposeful corruptions of facts to enlarge himself than this man. And, I do not detect the Biblical virtue of humility anywhere near him. No, I did not vote for Joe Biden, nor Hillary Clinton -- both, like Obama, running to be our Abortionist-in-Chief -- but I did a write-in of Ted Cruz in 2016 and I'll write another GOP-er in a year from now if we insist on nominating this man again.

Well Frank, the only reason Biden is president (and the Senate is Democrat, and the House is ours by only a thread) is because of your cult leader.

It is because of establishment Republicans with Trump Derangement Syndrome (aka hypersensitivity to mean Tweets) that voted for Democrats. And it is because of the stupid life at conception right inflaming the female vote.

The GOP dug this hole and deserves every bit of this. Commendable that you're getting this stuff out of your system though before Daddy Donny gets the nomination again and you're going to have to write pieces about how you just gotsa go vote for him.

Expand full comment

Yes indeed. Eric says this should be resolved at the ballot box. He acts like Democrats are responsible for his indictment. Wrong! Trump is responsible for his indictment. Thinking Republicans (hopefully there are a few of us left) cannot afford to let this moron be our nominee again. If we do, the Party will be dead for a generation. Only Trump can lose to Biden.

Expand full comment

Trump needs to withdraw as a candidate and allow other GOP candidates the chance to take the White House--they may be Trump's only chance for a pardon somewhere down the road. It should be clear to the most die-hard Trump fan that he is no longer fit to serve as president. Joe Biden should be pressured to resign immediately for the same reasons and if he does not, Biden should be hounded out of office in the form of hearings, impeachments, lawsuits and pressure brought to bear on his family, who was also involved in his shenanigans. The GOP cannot allow the progressives to hijack the narrative by using the Trump show to cover up Biden's crimes.
