Sirajuddin Haqqani is a New York Times contributor.
American forces blew up Ayman Al-Zawahiri, Al Qaeda’s number two after Osama Bin Laden, in Haqqani’s home in Kabul, Afghanistan.
I’m only being somewhat flippant. The New York Times gave Haqqani space to make a case for the Taliban in its pages. There was no staff revolt.
This is the same New York Times that saw a staff revolt over sitting United States Senator Tom Cotton offering up an op-ed on using force to quell the riots around the United States.
You need to remember the New York Times staff was more at ease with a member of the Taliban in its pages than a sitting United States Senator.
Missouri
Eric Schmitt won. This is good. He will be an excellent United States Senator and he will win the general election. As I noted on my radio show and in this email yesterday, Donald Trump should have been willing and able as leader of the party to take a clear stand against a sociopathic wife beater. He did not with his generic “Eric” endorsement. The people of Missouri were better and did better and we’ll be better off because of it. Maybe Eric Greitens was the real RINO all along.
Trump will, ever the internet troll, take credit. But Schmitt won because he ran a great campaign.
Kansas
Kansas voters rejected a constitutional amendment that would strip abortion protections from that constitution. While I would have voted to remove the restrictions, this is what conservatives wanted — the right to try. The left, through the Supreme Court, denied our ability to change directions democratically. The people of Kansas decided they wanted the status quo. At least those who disagreed were given the chance to make their case.
Keep in mind the GOP got over 60% of the primary vote in Kansas. Also, keep in mind the wording of the constitutional amendment was awful. How many people in Kansas showed up, read the following language, and voted no because they thought voting yes would allow abortion in Kansas?
Keep in mind as well that Kansas Republicans have a strong moderate streak in them that defies party ID. You can’t really extrapolate nationally on this. Regardless, keep in mind that this was democratically decided and even a vote against the pro-life side is far better than not being able to have a vote at all.
Expect the media to make more of this than they should and claim it suggests the GOP will be neutralized in November. The wave won’t be abated. Neither will the media’s assertions that the wave will be abated.
Arizona
I don’t care which gubernatorial candidate wins. I was not really impressed with either one, but I think regardless, the GOP can win the gubernatorial and the Senate race. Much of the “these candidates cannot win” zeitgeist comes from reporters trapped in their bubble with the Democrats. That said, I just found Kari Lake offputting, and I found Karrin Robson too entangled with unprincipled people.
Vin Scully
Honestly, the only news that really matters is the voice of baseball has died. He was not just the voice of the Dodgers but the voice of the whole game for multiple generations and one of the greatest broadcasters of all time. He was the voice of 23 World Series. He was a man of deep faith in Christ and great warmth for Christ’s people.
RIP.
I think there is a lesson in the Kansas vote. In fact, the majority of Americans are uncomfortable with the concept of abortion, but not so much that the majority wishes to see such conduct criminalized. The GOP can easily get over its skis if State Legislatures pass aggressive laws to punish interstate travel or pass an absolute ban on abortion.
Seems The New York Times had explaining to do. I heard the black women won’t vote in the next election if Kamala is replaced with Buttigieg.Says Larry Elder.
I have never participated in poll . I am 71 no kids. Joe Biden’s popularity is lower than whale crap.
