I've heard numerous comments regarding abortion in Deep Red Kansas. That is basically ignorance of Kansas. Weird place Kansas is in their political world. I do agree the wording was not helpful in determining what one would be voting for, which seems only appropriate for Kansas. Oddly, only 1% of the funding for the Yes people were from out-of-state interests, while 2/3 of the bucks for the NO were out-of-state! Planned Parenthood spent big! So, in retrospect the people of Kansas said Yes at a rate of 2 to 1 dollars (roughly), while outside interests made up the difference and then a couple of million on top of that. I believe it was $4+ million for the Yeps and $6+million for the Nopes.
I'm pleased that you were able to contrast The New York Times support of the Taliban and other U.S. foes with the paper's ridiculous (and frankly baffling) stand against an editorial written by a sitting U.S. Senator. Thank you for pointing that out.
I think there is a lesson in the Kansas vote. In fact, the majority of Americans are uncomfortable with the concept of abortion, but not so much that the majority wishes to see such conduct criminalized. The GOP can easily get over its skis if State Legislatures pass aggressive laws to punish interstate travel or pass an absolute ban on abortion.
